He was alone; he had lost everything he cared about, his job, his friends and her. He cared about her the most, his darling, beautiful girlfriend.

It had been a stupid fight, a very stupid fight. She'd been offered a job in the Immunology department at Princeton Plainsboro and he'd been offered a job back in Australia at a large hospital with a large intensive care unit. He didn't want her to stay in New Jersey, he wanted her to come with him to Oz and she wanted him to stay in New Jersey with her.

A stupid fight, and now he'd lost her, his most beautiful and wonderful girlfriend.

Sighing deeply, he drained his beer and settled himself against the soft material of his couch. It smelt like her, her lingering perfume reminding him of all the times they had fallen asleep on his couch after dinner or watching something on TV.

A knock at the door startled him out of his thoughts. He sat up, dropping the pillow he'd been holding to his chest.

The knocks continued until finally he pulled open the door to see her stood there, soaking wet from the rain. He hadn't realized it was raining.

"Allison! You're soaking. Come on in. I'll find you something dry to wear and a towel." He left her to stand just inside his apartment, nervously looking about her.

She had been inside this apartment on a number of occasions, but this time she felt nervous about it. She had broken his heart; she knew it. She had come to apologise, to tell him that she'd go to Australia with him, that she loved him.

"Here you go." She took the towel from him, allowing their skin to touch for just a second.

"What are you doing here? I thought you didn't want to see me again." She shock her head, looking deep into her eyes. He reached for her hand, stroking her skin with his thumb.

"Do they have an opening in Immunology?" He grinned, pulling her into his arms, not carrying if she was set. She was coming Australia with him; she was going to stay with him.

House sat at his desk, going through his emails.

It had been nearly 3 years since his team had left him. He'd gotten a new team, but they weren't the same as Chase, Cameron and Foreman. Occasionally he got an email from them, at Christmas or after some event that had happened in their lives and they felt like sharing it with him.

Today was one of those days. In his inbox lay an email from Cameron. He opened it, smiling slightly as he read its contents.

It hadn't surprised him that she'd gone off to Australia with Chase, or that they had married. Now, it turned out that Cameron had given birth to twins – Ethan and Rowan. There were a few pictures attached to the email, showing the proud parents grinning into the camera, each of them holding a sleeping baby.

House continued to smile, sitting back in his chair, looking at the young family. They looked happy, very happy.

"House?" He looked up to see Wilson stood in the doorway to the office. "You regret it, don't you, regret forcing them away." He nodded. He did regret it, he missed them; he missed being able to see them grow.

"But its been done, and I don't care." Wilson just nodded.

"You will one day, it'll haunt you otherwise." House just looked at the picture on the screen. That day had already come.
