Updated After Amanda is shot
It's been a few years since I've written fan fiction and not in this format. It's been awhile, so I'm learning. I started it when Amanda got shot, but after some constructive comments, I decided to go a different take. It's set in present day, but the same characters, etc. It starts from when Amanda wakes up & Lee gets back to the hospital. Please be kind.
Dotty had been pacing up and down the hallway and the Dr came out and said Amanda was waking up. She runs into Amanda's room. Around the same time Lee found out from Barney that he needs to get back to the hospital, it's Amanda. Lee arrives and after talking to Amanda's Dr, he sees her mother is coming out of her daughter's hospital room, she kisses him on the cheek and says, she's going to be fine and rushes off to find the Dr. Lee slips into her room. Amanda is very groggy, but alert. Lee grabs her hand and says, "good to see you are awake Mrs. Stetson" and leans in and kisses her. She says, "No honeymoon tonight, pal". Lee smiles and replies "Aw shucks". He then says "I've got some great news, some bad news and maybe some worse news." Amanda reaches up with one hand to brush the hair out of her eyes. "Well I think I know the great news. I'm still alive, right? What's the other news? Did you get the bad guys?"
Lee says, "Yes, while you were sleeping, they are going away for a long time. But…well, while you were in surgery, the nurse came out and gave me your rings to hold on to. I had so many other things on my mind, I never took mine off. Your mother showed up and saw the ring on my finger. She knows we are married."
"Well, how did she take it?" asks Amanda, searching Lee's face for clues. He replies, "she was a little disappointed that she wasn't included, but not surprised. I also think she will forgive the both of us considering the condition you are in" Amanda says, "Oh, my god, Philip and Jamie too. They don't know. I mean they are just getting to know you. I know we were planning on waiting for the safety of the family and later find the right time to tell everyone, and I guess that means Billy & Francine too, but now everyone will have to find out." Lee says, "you know I've been thinking, married or not, people know we are close. They've gone after you in the past, I think its best we stay together. Billy has the same issues worrying about Jeannie and I'd rather be with you than apart. But we do need to let your boys know first."
"So that's that bad news?" "Yes, but it gets worse. Not only do we have to delay our honeymoon, but the Dr. has ordered you on two weeks of bed rest. We can't be together like I want us to be. I love you so much Amanda, I want to spend every day with you by my side. I want you in our bed."
Her eyes tear up and she says "That's what I want too, but at least I won't have to be in this hospital, I can get out of here and be at home with mother and the boys. She sighs and says "and of course you. Can you find out when we can get out of here?"
Lee smiles and says "You always look to the positive. I guess two weeks won't be that bad. Let me talk to your mother and the Dr. I'll be right back." He leans in and gives her a quick peck. Amanda falls asleep and is dreaming about their wedding and wedding night and that annoying maid who wouldn't leave until the pillows were fluffed and the mints were left carefully on the bed. Finally, they were alone together and a night she will never forget. But the next thing she remembers is waking up in the hospital. Her eyes flutters open and Lee says I hope you got some sleep. He leans in for a kiss. She wishes she could roll over to her side and look at him sitting on her flat hospital bed while he holds her hand, but all she can do comfortably is turn her head. "Well, what did the Dr say?" Lee says "you can leave day after tomorrow. We will fly you home. Your mother is leaving tonight to get the house ready for you to be set up for two weeks. She's been so busy talking to the Dr and getting set things up back in Arlington she hasn't had time to come in, but I guess I've been monopolizing your time and she's been very considerate not bursting in. As if, she were eavesdropping Dotty, who finally convinced him to call her that instead of Mrs. West, enters Amanda's room. "Oh Amanda, we have so much to talk about. How could you not tell me you & Lee got married? And how did you get shot? On vacation, I mean honeymoon? What is going on, I know you have your own life and I try not to pry, but this is something you should have told me" "Mother," Amanda exasperates. I will explain everything when I get home. But please let me have my husband back so we can figure out how to break the news to Philip and Jamie." "Ok, Ok, I'm going. Look after her Lee will you?" She kisses him on the cheek and says "welcome to the family" She leaves and Lee pulls up a chair and says "alone at last, or at least as alone as you can be in a room, in a hospital surrounded by sterile hospital personnel." "Oh, I remember, you hate hospitals more than I do." "Yes, but you are worth it." Amanda says, I'm getting very sleepy. Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?" Of course Mrs Stetson, I just love saying that name. I'll stay. But when you wake up we do need to talk about what's waiting for us back home and uhhh, living arrangements?" "Uh, uh, whatever you…" and she drifts off to sleep. Lee smiles, gives her a quick peck, pulls the chair as close as he can to her bed, takes her hand and falls asleep himself.
