Katniss knows that she and Peeta are meant to be 'the star-crossed lovers of District 12' and yet she can't stop thinking about a certain Career. Clove knows that her district partner Cato is in love with her, and yet she can't stop thinking about a certain tribute from Twelve. Are these two girls the real star-crossed lovers? A Clovniss fanfiction.

Katniss's POV

"Primrose Everdeen."

The initial shock at hearing Effie Trinket call my sister's name is almost immediately replaced by horror, and I start to violently tremble. And as Effie says, "Any volunteers?" Before my mind can react, I hear the words come out of my mouth and ring out through District 12.

"I volunteer...! I volunteer as tribute!" There is a stunned silence within Twelve, which is eventually broken by Effie coughing loudly, then speaking up.

"Perfect. Miss Everdeen, could you please come up here?" I am about to walk up to greet Effie when I see Prim running towards me, Gale trailing behind her.

"Katniss!" Prim wails, and then Gale- desperately trying to console her. "No...no! Katniss! You can't go!"

"Shh, Prim, I'll be fine," I say gently, and clasp her hands.

That's all I get to say before a Peacekeeper drags Prim- who is now bristling with contempt- away. I swallow the lump in my throat and make my way up to join Effie, curious and terrified to find out what the Games will hold for me.

Clove's POV

"Let's say it again, just to be clear," I smile. "I volunteer as tribute."

I look down at the pool of blood, and then to the beaten-up girl that is being taken away by a few Peacekeepers, still screeching.

That was a bold move of myself, beating her up like that to secure my spot in the Games.

"Clove Kentwell, please make your way up to the podium." I heard the smooth voice of the District 2 announcer and it snapped me out of my thoughts.

I am about to join the announcer when I feel a tap on my shoulder.

"Nicely done, little Clove. I hope you're going to win for us."

I whip around and glare at my older brother, Victor- I hate it when he calls me 'little Clove'. He won the Games 2 years ago, when he was 18. Here in Two, they all say that he was destined to win because of his name Victor.

"Are you pissed now?" He laughs. I kick him lightly and stalk off to the podium.

This is going to be a breeze, I think, recollecting all the years I spent training for the Games.
