Misty blue eyes locked with chocolate brown eyes. A smile broke across his pale lips as he lifted his bottle of discreetly disguised blood as cool-aid. Across the room, he saw nothing, nothing but her sweet, innocent smile on those lips he loved to kiss so much. She raised her milk carton- empty he presumed.
I love you, she thought towards him. He received the thought so clear, so clear that he could even hear the smile.
No more than I love you, he thought back candidly, but in return, he heard nothing back. Sadly, as he was tapped on his shoulder, he stood, the chaotic yelling in the cafeteria filled his ears.
"Checking her out?" Klaus' voice made him look away from her. "She's hot. Looks good, too. Care to share a bite?" Klaus licked his lips. "Damon?"
A low, fierce growl came from Damon's chest. The warning there was as clear as a bell; Klaus took a step back, surprised.
"Brother, stop," Elijah said. "That's his…girlfriend."
"Girlfriend. A human girl?" Klaus tilted his head. "Then I'm sure you've tasted her already, hm?".
Damon barred his teeth and threw away his tray in the awaiting trashcan. A hand rested on his arm. It was soft and gentle, like her hand, but cooler and deadlier.
"Stop it, Salvatore. They were only kidding,' Katherine said, shooting Klaus and Elijah a stake sharp glare.
"You know the rules, Salvatore. No secrets from the family, the coven," Elijah said harshly.
"Oh yeah," Damon spun around on his heels to face the others, "I know the rules. I follow them all the way down to the last period, but if he found out about her, she'd be dead, and I don't want that."
"But why," Damon's younger brother Stefan said, pointing at Katherine, "her doppelganger?'
Damon, frustrated with the whole situation at hand, stalked off. He found her leaning against the wall casually, waiting for him. He joined her with a smile and took her hand. He bent down and kissed her as a large group walked in front of them so they wouldn't get caught.
"Hello, Elena," he said against her lips before pulling back.
"Hi, Salvatore," she chuckled. "So what was that all about?"
Damon groaned quietly. "You saw that?" Elena nodded.
"So like I said: What was that all about?"
Damon glanced back at the curly blonde watching him. "Nothing, really. Just Klaus being a jerk."
"He acts like an animal," she added.
Damon smirked. If she only knew… Klaus was an animal. He wasn't just a vampire, he was also vampires' worst enemy, a werewolf. Damon did his best to make it inevitably clear that Elena was his when his when he receive the 'I'll eat her sooner or later' thought from Klaus as he walked by them.
"Calm down, Salvatore," Stefan muttered as he walked by.
Shut up, Ripper! Damon thought harshly. He heard Stefan say, "That temper of yours is going to get you in a lot of trouble."
Damon rolled his eyes and let go of Elena's hand. He stole a kiss from her before disappearing into his classroom.
"Come on, Elena," Bonnie Bennett said, pulling her with her.
