Before you ask, just don't. I don't know! LOL. Came to me during an intense moment at work. Now you all think I have a completely depressing job, right? LOL
Switches between his point of view, then hers, and details of how it feels to know you're dying. Your final moments. Or at least how I interpret it being.
Disclaimer: Even though I mention barely any names, I own none of the characters relating to Sea Patrol. Or anything for that matter.

It was all over in seconds; they had barely had the chance to blink for the initial impact.
And then there were the minutes after when the full amount of the impact hit them. Hard.
He was by her side in seconds, his heart pounding. He didn't even notice the graze on his head, or the piece of shrapnel in his arm that was oozing dark blood. She was the only something in his line of sight and his train of thoughts.
She tried reassuring him that things would be okay, that he would be okay. But he wasn't having any of it. Whether it was because he was trying to generate positive thoughts, or whether it was just plain denial. She'd never be sure. But either way, she could see the complete and utter pain, despair it was causing him.
The final look she shared with him was her final memory. The tear-stained cheeks, eyes pleading. General desperation in some hope and prayer that things would truly be okay. If only.
She could never have predicted her demise this way. And even a career with the constant fear of losing your life in the line of duty couldn't have prepared her for that moment. What amount of training could prepare you for something as dark and black as death?
When you only have moments to live, you know to make the most of it. Get everything out that you have ever felt. How much you have missed this person, how much they meant to you. And how much you've been in love with a certain someone since day one.
And as the fate finally settles and you accept it, you can't help that final moment of pain when you see their face staring down at you, willing you to keep breathing. And while you try everything in your power to make the inevitable impossible, you realise the only possible outcome.
And you only accept it so as to make the most of those final moments before in which you know your fate, she somehow finds the courage to tell him what she's always wanted to say.
I Love You Josh.
And he only replies the only thing he can after this.
I Love You Too Nikki.
By the time those final words are out, I see her eyes drooped closed, and as the tears spill harder and faster, I can only hope she heard those words, such precious words, as she draws her final breath.

Okay, so what do we think? Just a little, dark, one shot, featured sometime before "Catch and Release" and before ET and Nikki we're ever 'officially' anything.
Points of view were confusing, right? Well, that's the point.
Would love to hear your thoughts...
