Footsteps echoed, bouncing off the walls as a man in a dusty robe slowly, almost hesitantly made his way down the corridor. He finally arrived at a doorway. Another man, this one immaculately dressed, blonde hair waving in the wind of the open window, had his back towards the first.

Without turning, the man said, "Hello Albus, I've been expecting you."

Albus Dumbledore didn't speak for a moment, simply gazing at the man. "Good Afternoon, Gellert."

Gellert Grindelwald slowly turned, looking at his old friend. They stood, simply looking at each other before Grindelwald finally spoke again. "I don't suppose I could convince you to join me?"

Dumbledore smiled slightly, sadly. "We both know the answer to that question already, old friend."

Grindelwald nodded, before he began pacing. "Why Albus? You could be great. Everyone would know you, love you. We would lead the wizarding world into prosperity that it has never known! The whole world even!"

Dumbledore sighed, taking off his glasses for a moment before looking back at his friend. "I've never needed the world to love me Gellert, and wouldn't trust myself with that kind of power anyway."

Grindelwald continued pacing. He just couldn't understand it! "Who better to lead the world than us Albus? The two greatest wizards in generations! I need this Albus, I need people to understand just how special I am! To understand that I only mean to help them!"

Dumbledore lifted a single eyebrow. "I know all of this, isn't that enough?"

Grindelwald gazed at Dumbledore for a moment. "No Albus, it is not enough."

Dumbledore sighed again. He seemed to be doing that a lot recently, couldn't possibly be good for him. "You must know why I have come here today."

"Yes. It is a fool's errand Albus. I possess the Elder Wand. None have the power to match me or it. Not even you." Dumbledore said nothing and Grindelwald's pacing became more agitated. "You know this Albus! We searched for it together! You will die."

Finally, Dumbledore spoke, now with a slightly sardonic look in his eye. "Death, to the well-organized mind, is but the next great adventure."

"There is nothing after death, Albus."

Dumbledore shrugged, unwilling to argue the point any further. "And yet, I still can't let you leave."

Grindelwald, sounding almost pleading now, said, "I only want what is best for all wizards. For them to be free, and not have to hide what they are! Please don't make me kill you."

Dumbledore looked at the most feared Wizard in all the world as he would a wayward student who had snuck out past curfew. "Freedom at the expense of others is no freedom at all."

Grindelwald collected himself, just as Dumbledore steeled himself to what he knew he must do. Then, slowly, as if each were the other's reflection they both raised their wands.

"Avada-"

"-Kedavra!"

Fin.
