Hello, everyone! This is my first attempt at a drabble, so please tell me how it is.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
"Good people are like candles. They burn themselves up to give others light." -Turkish Proverb
…
"Jason, what's up, man? Annabeth finally gave me a break with the Argo II, so we can hang out-"
"Not now, Leo. I need to meet up with Annabeth to come up with some kind of strategy for making peace with the Romans. They're great people, but they're not exactly a friendly bunch," Jason laughed. "Maybe later, though."
There was no later. Jason never hung out with Leo. Just like he never noticed the depressed expression cross his usually excited friend's face before it was disguised with a smile.
"Uh… yeah. Sure. Sounds great."
He never noticed the obvious lie, the obvious sadness, in his friend's tone.
…
He's so sorry, but it's too late to apologize.
…
He watched as Leo held his ribs, wincing as he rubbed his fingers over the spot after the monster fight came to an end.
"You okay?" Jason questioned.
Leo grinned. "Of course, Jay. I'm always fine. I'm McShizzle, Hot Stuff Supreme Commander of The Argo II!"
Jason chuckled. "Okay, Valdez."
He never asked to see Leo's ribs, never batted an eye when he saw Leo gripping his ribs in pain. He never stopped Leo from training or fighting when he was obviously injured.
Maybe if he had noticed Leo's pain, he would have known Leo's ribs were broken.
…
I'm so sorry, so sorry.
…
Leo was spending more and more time in his room, almost isolated, working on secret projects.
Jason didn't question it. He assumed it was just Leo being Leo.
Maybe if he had noticed something, anything, Leo would still be alive.
…
I'm so sorry, so sorry.
…
Why didn't Leo say anything? Why didn't Leo tell people when he was hurting? Why didn't he tell people when he was breaking? Why didn't he tell people when he needed help? Why didn't he ask for the help he needed?
Months after the Giant War, Jason finally figured it out.
"Good people are like candles. They burn themselves up to give others light."
I am not hating on Jason. I can just see the seven experiencing a lot of guilt after Leo 'died'.
This is not my best work, but I don't think it was bad for my first drabble, especially since I'm trying to practice writing drabbles. Please review and let me know what you thought of this and how I can improve my drabble-writing.
