All I Want For Christmas

Disclaimer: I own nothing. I don't own the characters, the place or the song. Those are parts of other people's genius.

Lily Potter sighed softly as she gazed at her son laughing at one of Sirius's jokes, unaware that she was watching. The entire atmosphere at 12 Grimmauld Place was unusually light. The Christmas ornament glittered softly across the walls casting light into dark corners. Everything was so right except one thing. Harry was happy spending Christmas with Sirius, Remus and the Weasleys, but…

Oh, how I wish I could spend Christmas with him, just once more. My little baby… I miss him so…

Lines from a Muggle Christmas carol sprung to her mind

I don't ask for much this Christmas…

Well that was certainly true. She had no desire for material things…

Don't care about no presents underneath the Christmas tree…

Yeah, well you don't exactly get Christmas presents when you're dead

All I want for Christmas is you…

All she wanted was her little baby, her Harry. She wanted to hold him tight and reassure him that everything would be okay. But she knew she couldn't and that she would probably never hold him again. He would never know what her voice sounded like and she would never tuck him in at night. She never receive a Mother's Day card, never talk to her son, never explain to him why things were a certain way, never hold her first grandchild…

A hand on her shoulder interrupted her thoughts. James whispered in her ear, " I was looking for you, I thought you might be here,"

Lily mumbled, " I just had to visit… to be here… it's not the same just watching from afar… I miss him you know…"

Tears glistened in her emerald green eyes.

James wrapped his arms around his wife comfortingly.  He gently replied, " I know. I do too"

" I just wish … You know … he can't even remember Christmas with us," Lily said, voice turning angry, " Jesus, he can't even remember us at all! It's just not fair!"

The force of Lily's anger reverberated around the room, rippling harshly through the air. Emotional magic tinged the air and a single glass bauble fell from the tree. It shattered into millions of tiny pieces.

The noise broke into Lily's anger and she suddenly fell to the ground sobbing uncontrollably. James knelt beside her and scooped her up.

"It's not fair!" she cried.

"I know it's not fair, Lil, but we can't change anything," James said soothingly

She looked up at him, tears staining her cheeks; red hair mussed up and whispered, "Why?"

They both knew there was no answer to that question.

Lifting her up, James murmured, " It's time to leave, Lily."

And with that the two disappeared.

Ginny was walking out of the room when she saw the broken bauble. She waved her wand, murmured, "Reparo!"  and the pieces of glass leapt back. She then hung it back up where it glittered in shades of emerald green.
