Canada had his first interaction with another Nation when he first was founded by Norway and was given the name of Vineland. He grew attached to Lukas. Lukas was his first Big Brother. He taught him how to talk with his people, learned Norse, had his first lessons on being a Nation, and was given his pet polar bear Kumajiro,but back then he was called *Isbjørn. He looked up to the viking and was heartbroken when he had to leave to go back to his own country. Lukas promised to come back for him. In the end though he had never returned.
His second interaction with another Nation happened when he was discovered by the man he would soon call Papa. France was a strange man. He wore frilly, ruffled filled clothing, which, to Vineland, seemed strange. Francis Bonnefoy took Vineland in and named him New France. He then gave him his human name. Matheu Williams Bonnefoy was his new name. Francis taught him French and taught him about French culture. He taught Matheu how to cook, clean, sew, and taught him piano and violin. He also taught him about love and how it was special and beautiful. Those years with Francis were some of Matheu's favorite memories. However, those happy memories would not last forever. His Papa had lost the Seven Years' War and had to hand him over to England.
Life as an English colony was not what he feared it would be. He met his younger twin America or at the time New England. Alfred was incredibly strong and broke things on accident most of the time. As Canada was the oldest of the English colonies he was responsible for baby sitting the younger children of the Kirkland household. Over time though, Matthew noticed Alfred acting strange and being distant. He soon realized why. America was declaring independence from England. The Revolutionary War left Arthur heart broken and Matthew was there to be of comfort to his Father. He stayed with Arthur until he became his own nation and yet not entirely breaking away from his Father figure. Canada stayed apart of the British Commonwealth and aided England when he needed it. He aided the Allies during WW1 and WW2. He lost his eyesight and had to wear glasses after the second World War.
Going back on all this Matthew doesn't understand why he is so invisible. He was not his loud brother Alfred. He is not a British colony. He is not a weak country as everyone thinks he is. He is passive-aggressive yes but not unnoticeable. He is apart of the G8 for the love of Maple! He wishes the other Nations remember all that he has done as a country and as a person. As Matthew Williams the personification of Canada.
