Traitors

Tuppence was strolling with a purpose in the park. She was looking for a man by the name of Julius Hersheimmer. Tup was in a secluded part of the park. The wind whistled softly through the trees rustling their leaves. It was places like this that she used to hang out with Tommy before they became Young Adventures. A firm hand suddenly grabbed her elbow bringing her deeper into the trees. "Tuppence," a familiar voice said. "Tommy?" she turned toward him. He looked, different. His hair had been cut into a more uniform shape and he was wearing an unusual style of clothing. "You're ok!" Tup exclaimed. "What happened to you?" she asked carefully. "Tuppence, I've switched sides," Tommy said indifferently.

"What do you mean? Switched what sides?" Tup questioned as began creeping up her spine. Then she realized what Tommy had meant before he finished answering, "I've decided to..." Tup cut him off and shrieked, "You're joining the Russians?!" "Yes" came the simple reply. Tuppence took a step back. Tommy grabbed her retreating hand to stop her. "Join us," he said looking her in the eye. "The Russians have promised great wealth if I should bring them Jane Finn and the papers." Tommy said. "You once said money was of great importance to you. Here will be more money than you have ever dreamed!" Tuppence jerked her hand out of his. "Never," she whispered her eyes filled with horror. Tup turned and ran. Sighing quietly, he reached for his revolver and aimed at her retreating form. "You should have joined us," he said softly. Then he fired.

Julius was looking for Tuppence with a question in mind. He had decided to propose to her. He wasn't in love but he had a great admiration for her. Julius heard a gun fire in the trees somewhere to his left. He turned and raced for the source. When he reached it he saw a slumped figure leaning against a tree. Julius rolled the body carefully face up onto the ground. It was Tuppence. There was no evidence that anyone else had been there expect a fast cooling body on the ground.
