When I was only seventeen I couldn't wait for twenty-one
Sirius Black can remember being in seventh year at Hogwarts. Seventeen years old and he couldn't wait until he was twenty-one, when he could do what he wanted, and be who he wanted to be.
I'd hang around on Clayton Street in the bars there getting' drunk. A baseball cap and a fake ID would get me in the club
On Friday nights he and the other Marauders would ditch their robes and ties for jeans and T-shirts and ride their brooms to a Muggle town close by. A simple fake ID (distributed my James of course) would get them in to the club.
Then I would dance with the college girls and lie about who I was. I'd say I'm pre-med here at UGA, live on Milledge Avenue. I was raised here in Buckhead, I drive a BMW
He would dance with all the college girls and lie when they asked about who he was. He'd say I'm going to school to be a doctor at a college up the road. Was raised in the big house over on West Avenue and drive a pick-up truck.
I was breaking hearts and taking names and numbers just for fun. Stealing kisses wishing I was twenty-one
Sirius would kiss them and get their number. They told him to call. He never did.
Now I'm somewhere in the grey of middle class and middle aged. The man in the mirror looks more like my father every day
Now he was out of Azkaban and past the golden age of twenty-one. He lived in his childhood house that brought back memories he didn't want to have, and to top it off each time he glanced at a mirror the his reflection looked more like his father who he had always disliked.
My clothes are out of fashion, my hair is getting thin. My favorite conversation starts with "I remember when"
He was wearing "robes from dinosaur times" as his cousin Tonks put it. His hair was a little greyer than the signature Black shade. Even though it made him feel older, his favorite conversations started with "Remember that time that James pulled that prank…" or "Remember that day when…"
Still we go down to that collage town and dance at the eighties bar. We drink until we feel a whole lot cooler than we are
Sometimes he and Remus (The two Marauders that weren't dead/evil) went down to the club in that Muggle town and remember the two other people that used to sit next to them. The people should be sitting next to them. So they sat there and drank whatever those blasted Muggle drinks were called, and tried not to look to sad and out of place.
I look at all those college girls so innocent and young; I just chuckle and say "I wish I was twenty-one"
Sirius sits there and drowns his sorrow in a drink. He wishes he was twenty-one and James and Lily were alive. He wishes Peter wasn't on the "dark" side. Wishes almost never come true though, so Sirius just sits there and asks the bartender for another drink.
AN: Ok so I hope I did this well. This is my favorite song at the moment, although it changes every week. The song is Twenty-one by Corey Smith and I do not know it. I did the first and the last verse only so I hope that's not confusing. Also there seems to be multiple versions of this song, so this is the one from the music video, and the one on my iPod (I got the song from iTunes it's the 2011 version, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Thanks for reading
