Ginny and Harry have a rather interesting talk about Ron and Hermione.
6th year, just after Harry and Ginny start dating.
Ginny leaned against Harry's legs as she busied herself with chewing rather ferociously on a quill. He smiled serenely(for the first time, he is actually at peace) down at her and played with her famous Weasley-red hair.
He's just thinking about how nice it is, to have no drama, to not be questioning or scheming anything when Ginny quite randomly bursts out,
"So what are we going to do about Ron and Hermione?"
He really should try not to jinx himself.
"Er, I wasn't under the impression we were going to do anything." There really isn't anything to do, he thinks. Sure, he might have had suspicions that Hermione had, um, feelings for Ron when the latter started dating Lavender, but it seems she's gotten over that whole stage and they were friends again. As far as he was concerned, everything was fine.
Ginny looked indignantly up at him.
"Well, Harry, we can't just do nothing." When he continued to stare at her with a confused look on his face, she let out an exasperated sigh.
"Oh, come on! I would have thought you'd noticed, they are you're best mates." He sits there for a second, searching for something to say, when she interrupts his thoughts again.
"Though you are one of the most oblivious people I know...well, excluding Ron." Before he can even try to jump in and defend his best mate and himself, she continues.
"Anyway, we'll need a plan. Maybe inviting them on a double date with us? That could be a little to obvious, though like I said, it won't be obvious to Ron... have to hit him over the head with a brick that says You like Hermione before he would even began to understand... I guess he could be in denial. I know she is, but I think Ron must be pretty heavily denying, because he's being a little more dense then usual..." As Ginny continued to ramble on about how stupid her brother was, he tried to brainstorm ways to get off the rather uncomfortable topic of his "sister" and his best mate's feelings. And then he had the perfect idea.
"Ginny!" She started and turned to look up at him.
"What?" He smiled pleasantly.
"How would you like it if Hermione and Ron went around discussing our relationship behind our backs? Kind of an invasion of privacy, don't you think? Also, considering the fact that Ron is your actual brother and Hermione is not technically my sister, it makes it even more weird on your part."
She appeared a little stunned that he wasn't going along with her idea, but after a few moments of just sitting there, she appeared to have considered his words.
"Well... but... they're so-"
"I know." He said soothingly.
"And he's being so-"
"I understand." He really didn't, but it never hurt to agree with Ginny Weasley.
"I don't get why they just can't-" He actually laughed at that one.
"Gin, it's Ron and Hermione we're talking about. Neither of them, especially Ron, are good with their own feelings. And even more so when it comes to each other."
She seemed to be dumbfounded. And at an apparent loss for words, until finally, she asked.
"Well... what do we do?" He just intertwined his fingers with hers and let their hands rest between them.
"For now... nothing." Ginny smiled down at their hands, then nodded slowly.
"Okay... nothing. Nothing it is."
A few minutes later, she whispered,
"I give them 6 months until their first snog."
He laughed and said,
"A year, tops."
