Okay so I'm going to try writing a story on my iPad and then convert it to my laptop when I get it back but first chapter is written and posted from iPad so I hope it's okay but please forgive slight formatting errors.
Chapter 1: A Shattered World
It had been nine years since the adventures of the Cybersquad and no one had thought that after the defeat of Hacker eons ago that he would find a way to return, in the worst way possible. It was a normal day in Cyberspace and Digit was doing some tasks in Control Central for Motherboard.
"Almost done Motherboard," Digit said happily. "When's the Doc getting back?"
"He should be here any minute, Digit," Motherboard said gently. Suddenly, before Digit could even respond to that, Motherboard's screen went static causing Digit's eyes to widen.
"Motherboard!" Digit cried rushing as close as he could to the monitor but there was no response from her. The door to Control Central suddenly flew open and Hacker's henchmen, Buzz and Delete came through although there was something different about them. Normally, Hacker's henchmen were treated like a joke because they were the reason most of Hacker's plans had flunked but now they gave off a rather intimidating aura and it sent chills down Digit's spine in all the wrong ways.
He found himself shifting backwards as Delete's hands reached out to try and grab him, he backed away further until he accidentally pressed a button in Control Central, opening the doorway to the room with the emergency coup. Not thinking further, he grabbed his Squack-Pad, heart racing faster than ever as he flew towards the room. If he didn't get out of here, he would be toast, literally. He managed to get in the coup and lock it but not before a blast hit his wing, scraping it and causing crimson red liquid to flow from it. He was in shock that cyboids like him could even bleed but he had no time to think on it as he powered up the engine and flew out of there. He flew as fast as he could, faster than he had ever driven the coup before, not even looking back to see if Buzz and Delete had followed him or not because it would slow him down. He set the coup to Radapolis to see if he could get Slider to help him out of this situation. His wing throbbed from the pain but he could not afford to lose the concentration – not until he was somewhere he was sure Buzz and Delete couldn't follow him.
Arriving in Radapolis, he wasn't too shocked to see the place looked like a mess. Muddy puddles and dirt filling the place that was usually so beautiful was saddening to see but considering what had just happened to Motherboard, Digit was not too surprised. He slowly got out of the coup and even though he was unable to fly due to his wing being injured, he moved as fast as he could before Buzz and Delete could catch up with him and found his way to Slider's garage which had some sort of strange shield on it and he hurried forward to see Coop, Creech, Jules, Shari, Dodi, Scanner, Fluff, Lucky and Glowla all there.
"Digit!" Slider cried surging forward "Are you alright? What happened to your wing?"
"Come on in," Creech said gently, helping the little cybird inside for which Digit was grateful because now that the adrenaline had worn off, he felt exhausted from all the running and escaping that he just had to do.
"Slider and his dad managed to shield the garage so we're safe here," Jules said encouragingly, hoping the shield would last long but not being sure.
Coop frowned. "For now at least. Our enemies are powerful so they could be able to by estimate break the shield in a maximum of three days."
"Three days?!" Digit cried. "That's not enough time to come up with a plan. Who is our enemy anyway? I know Hacker has to be involved in this cause Buzz and Delete nearly killed me. Speaking of that, why am I bleeding anyway? Cyboids and Cyborgs don't normally bleed and all, I mean we're made of machinery right?"
"Digit, calm down," Creech soothed gently. "Panicking won't ameliorate the situation. We need a plan and first we need to start by healing your wing. It looks to be in pretty bad shape. Jules?"
Jules nodded, taking out his first aid kit he usually kept with him in case of emergencies and began tending to Digit's wing as Coop began to explain.
"Hacker is definitely back," Coop said softly. "But this time, he's stronger than ever. We haven't been able to find out much but he has new allies, extremely intelligent who have helped him gain power in Cyberspace more than he has ever had. He has also managed to activate a machine called Vanmodulator which changes the very existence of cyberbeings and Cyberspace. It's already changed us in ways we cannot even possibly fathom. Did Buzz and Delete not seem different to you, Digit?"
Digit nodded, as much as he could without moving around as Jules tended to his wing. "They seemed stronger. And much scarier than I could have ever thought them to be. But how do we stop it?"
There was silence then as Jules tied Digit's wing in a bandage and patted the cybird's shoulder gently.
"Try not to move it too much, it was pretty badly injured to be honest," Jules said, breaking the silence since no one else was saying anything.
"Thanks," Digit said smiling a bit at Jules, a little calmer now. His wing still stung but it did feel better than before. He didn't like the extended silence however. "What? What is it?"
"Motherboard's been shut down and no one's heard from Dr. Marbles," Shari finally spoke up since no one else seemed to be willing to right now. "Matthew, Inez and Jackie have no way of getting to Cyberspace without a portal. Digit, you're close to both Motherboard and Dr. Marbles as well as a key member of the Cybersquad. With Motherboard gone, Cyberspace needs a temporary leader and us and many other Cybercitizens refuse to follow Hacker. You're the only hope in guiding Cyberspace right now."
Digit gaped at Shari as if she had grown another head. Him being leader of Cyberspace in Motherboard's absence? No way! He wasn't a leader...he didn't know how to really take charge, he wasn't as smart as his friends and he usually always followed after them. He backed away from the others, turning to Slider and Fluff for help because he was closer to them than the others but their expressions didn't give him much hope.
"Guys, I'm not really a leader," Digit said shifting a little. "I know I'm close to Motherboard and have helped the Earthlies on missions and stuff but I can't lead you. I don't know how. Besides..." He trailed off, realising none of them knew that he had worked for Hacker and been created by him. He found himself missing his Earthlies more than ever...they knew about his past and never judged him.
"You guys, Digit is right," Glowla spoke up. "We can't put this much pressure on him. It's not fair. He'd be the biggest target for Hacker if he became our leader."
"Logically, he already is a big target, being a member of the Cybersquad," Coop spoke up. "Besides, Cyberspace needs a guide, a leader until Motherboard is up and running again."
"Digit please," Fluff said softly. "You're the only one who can."
"Isn't that amusing?" A shrill unknown voice came and the shield around the Garage was shattered as a girl with wavy lavender hair and emerald blue eyes stepped forward. She looked like one of the Earthlies but much much older than they were.
"Run!" Digit cried and everyone moved backwards to run although it was no use as the girl shot some sharp metallic wire which entered inside Coop.
"Dad!" Slider cried as his father collapsed and made to run forward but Shari grabbed his arm before he could get snatched away by the girl too who had placed Coop in some sort of machine.
"Slider, you need to run," Shari insisted, yanking at his arm as he stood there, staring as his father was captured before his very eyes. No, this couldn't be happening again. He had grown up without his father and now he had lost him again. It seemed as if they didn't need to run though as the girl vanished once she had Coop with her.
"Why?" Slider whispered. "Why was dad taken? I don't understand...who was that girl?"
"We need to go," Lucky insisted sharply. "They could be back to capture the rest of us. Digit what do we do?"
All eyes except Slider's turned to Digit who looked alarmed. He had no idea what to tell them. The shield idea had failed badly and Radapolis was now unprotected. There was no place they could go...except for Earth. If they could reach the Earthlies, they might have a chance to win.
"If we could get to Earth somehow..." Digit began. "Shari! Could we find a portal at Frogsnorts? Even if it's last edition, it's important that we get to Earth as soon as we can."
Shari nodded in agreement. "I think I can find one. But how will we get there?"
"Slider do you have anything that can get us there?" Digit asked the boy who slowly snapped out of his stupor and managed a nod.
"Yeah," Slider said quietly. "I can pinpoint the location at Frogsnorts. Let's go."
Digit nodded, watching the others gather in the craft Slider arranged for them before exhaling. He hoped he could deal with this whole leader thing for awhile because he knew he wasn't going to be very good at it.
