Summary: The Doctor doesn't like playing the 'third wheel' so he picks the third solution. Drabble oneshot, short little attempt at something a little funny by me
Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who, that's the BBC. Nor do I get an cash for writing this stuff, so please, no lawsuits.
A/N: Reviews are helpful. This is just a sort of… spur of the moment thing. I wrote and am posting it within an hour, so may have errors. If you notice 'em please tell me. I like to know when I make a complete idiot out of myself… Well, no, I really don't, but telling me anyway would be appreciated.
Not A Slipper
By Literary Litany
He hadn't chosen another female companion for the very simple reason he hadn't yet met one Rose didn't show an irrational dislike of. He suspected this was jealousy, though he never dared to say so. He hadn't chosen another male companion because frankly, Rose always liked them a bit too much. She might have called it jealousy, though he strictly told himself it was for the peace of mind of not having to endure the company of two individuals who couldn't keep their hands off each other. He very much disliked being a 'third wheel'.
So that left one kind of companion he could invite.
"Is that my slipper?" She asks, for only him to hear luckily, and he winces.
"Don't be rude, Rose." He whispers back, giving a grand gesture to the furry little pink ball. "This is Ick. Rose Tyler, meet Ick. Vice versa of course."
"Nice to… um… meet you, Ick." She manages, reigning in her stare as she extends her hand before realizing it doesn't have arms and dropping it back to her side again.
Two small eyes open from out of the fuzzy mass of hair, and a small line she assumes is a mouth tilts upward. "It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Rose Tyler. I see that you have not met one of my species before?"
She shakes her head, and the tiny smile broadens. "Then let me compliment you. I have met a number of human whose first reaction was to try and squish me. Apparently my race bear a vague similarity to one of Earth's native rodents."
Rose gives a little laugh, and stoops down. It peers up at her still, but with less strain. "I don't know how anyone could compare you to a rat. You're way more cute." She flicks a gaze between Ick and the Doctor. "You want a ride on my shoulder while we get better acquainted? Hope that's not like… Insulting or-"
"I would be honored, Rose Tyler." She returns its broad and sharp-toothed grin with a more human one of her own and carefully scoops Ick up to place him gently on her shoulder. "Thank you, Rose Tyler." It says reverently, and Rose decides that she likes Ick. Cute and… Could she say gentlemanly if she wasn't sure if it was male? Polite then.
"Just Rose is fine." She says, and she links her hand in the Doctor's. "Though now, I think we need to show you around." She quirks an eyebrow. "Right Doctor?"
He grins and decides that he now has a second favorite species. He hadn't seen Rose this excited about company in… Ever?
"Right we are! This, as I told you before, is my time ship: The TARDIS. That's Time and Relative Dimension In Space…"
