The Easy Way Out

Aurora Sinistra was a coward. Anyone would tell you that.

Minerva McGonagall would say that to anyone who asked where the Astronomy professor was. The students that had been present during her departure would say that, too, adding that they really had liked her.

But when Severus Snape had been made headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy – appointed by Lord Voldemort himself – Aurora had packed her bags and left that very same day.

Minerva had tried to convince her otherwise, begging that for the sake of the students, it was in her best interests to stay. She thought of them regretfully, knowing that three very brave students of hers were somewhere, some place, fighting for the greater good. Such brave souls were Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

Aurora was never placed in Gryffindor, and the Dark Lord terrified her. She was not brave enough, nor wise enough, to stand up to such an evil person. She didn't want him to win, but it was a fight she wasn't going to take part of.

Without a word, she silently packed her belongings and slunk into the Great Hall to wish her fellow colleagues – the ones who weren't chosen by Voldemort – the best of luck. Students had watched in silence as she left, and Headmaster Snape had simply pursed his lips without uttering a word to her.

She regretted those actions every single day, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She was not one for fighting. She was not cut out for such a task. So that day, when she'd taken her broomstick from the grounds and flew home, was probably the best decision she had made her whole life.

The teachers, her students and the school would be much better fighting this war without her.

Wiki said that she was terrified of Voldemort, so I thought to play on that fact and write this. I hope you liked it. I really enjoy writing about minor characters :)
