Prologue

I felt so alive. Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I dashed through the forest, both legs almost lifting off the ground as I ran.
My entire body felt so light. Like a feather.
As I approached the edge of the cliff, my hair bristled in excitement. I could almost hear the wind whispering in my ears, saying run, run faster, faster than anybody else. The edge was merely meters away and not even stopping to think; I leaped.
My heart pounded wildly as I sailed over the forest, Fantastic! ,my mind was shouting, Fantastic!
The wind blew against my back, pushing me forward and I could almost hear it screaming, screaming at me to defy the god's will. My body was tingling with a strange and unknown feeling and I loved it.
The ground was much closer now and terror engulfed me for a moment, fearing that I would go splat. The brown earth came closer. Then my legs moved.
My legs stretched, digging into the soft soil as I landed. It took me a moment to realize that I was not a bloody mess on the ground. I looked around to see where I had landed.
Then I suddenly threw my head back, letting out an inhuman howl. The moonlight reflected in my eyes for an instant before I realized.
Why did I do that?
The excitement and happiness I had earlier was suddenly replaced by fear and confusion.
What was that?
The wind picked up again, and it was no longer steady and soft but harsh and strong. A shiver ran through my body and I covered my torso with my hands. Then, something rushed past me and I quickly turned; only to see the back of a deer.
I could feel my teeth pricking my bottom lip as I continued staring. A sweet scent entered my nose and I could feel my ears prickling gently. Something in me rumbled and I felt more than scared.
Oh my god, what was happening?
I didn't realize I was moving until the branch of a tree brushed me, its sharp edges poking my skin. I looked in front of me and realized that I was chasing the deer from before. My legs were a blur as I chased it through the seemingly unending forest.
Stop, I told myself, stop!
Instead of obeying my command, my body moved even faster, and I could hear my heart pumping in my ears. The hind figure of the deer came closer, and closer. Before I knew it my jaw, had clamped tightly on it leg, and the deer let out a whine of pain.
My mind was fuzzy as I felt warm blood seeping into my mouth. It thrashed wildly, trying to escape my bite but was instead falling victim to my jaws. My hand reached out to grab it tender belly and I released its hind leg and sprang forward.
There was a sickening crunch of bones as my teeth crushed its neck and pierced through its jugular. Blood spurted into my mouth and the animal went limp.
No stop…
I ripped the skin off my prize and started feasting.
Stop….
The heavenly taste of raw meat in my mouth coupled with fresh warm blood was ecstasy. At this point, my body wasn't mine anymore.
Please stop…
The haze in my mind cleared and I found myself in front of a carcass. My body was trembling violently and my hands and face felt extremely sticky. I looked down and my eyes opened wide.
My hand was completely covered in fur and I choked when I saw sharp claws resting where my fingernails once were. Stunned, I looked in the puddle beside me. The human features on my face were gone, now replaced by a large snout. My teeth had become large canines, capable of tearing someone apart. I was larger, taller and instead of healthy fine human skin, I was covered in fur. I was neither human nor animal.
As blood trickled down my body, I couldn't hold it in.
I fell to my knees and cried.
That was the first time I transformed.
