She did not cry and, in the end, it was that very silence that made her quiet swan's song; her mute aria lingering softly in the fading twilight. Strong and clear, it was her ultimate paradox that she presented in the final scene of the final act.

She felt neither strong nor clear.

Affetuoso accarezzevole:

How well she seemed to don the guise of ballet's tragic heroine in the fading moonlight. The disappearing luna was finally falling accompanied only with the heart breaking reality that she had gambled on love and she had lost.

Dolente dolicissimo:

Her soft gasps that barely broke the silence, heralding the breaching tears that ebbed and welled in her eyes as she stood, alone, surrounded by the ashes of her frail hopes. There was to be no rebirth from this; she was a fallen swan doomed to die, not a phoenix who could rise from the smouldering remains.

For, here in her final cadenza, in her final arietta, she was only one thing; tragic.

a/n:

I'll keep it brief; really there is not much to say about this piece. I always liked the story of swan lake, so when amayabambi sent me the requested prompt for something tragic, the ballet immediately came to mind. I hope that it draws even to those who are not in love with (or even familiar with) the 'real' story can enjoy this tragic tale.

Prompts are, as always, welcomed and adored.
