Chapter One: The Hunters

We were a normal family, with a dad, a mom, a younger sister and, a twin brother, when one day we were attacked by a giant pitch-black dog that seemed to come out of the shadows, and two women, each with two snake tails instead of legs. My dad picked up our infant sister and shoved her into my arms and dragged us into the attic in which he began to rummage through boxes, while our mom stayed downstairs to buy us some time, little did I know that would be the last time we saw our mother.

Pulling a box out our dad, proceeded to pull out three pieces of jewelry and giving them to us, I got a black collar with a silver, gold and, bronze rose on it, with the silver being the most dominant of the three, my twin brother got a black ring, braided out of bronze, silver and, obsidian, with the obsidian being the most dominant of the three, and our sister got a pair of earrings with the stern made of silver, the butterfly out of gold and the small hearts, being the dominant part of the earring, bronze. After putting the jewelry on, the door broke down. Standing there at the door was one of the women with snake tails coved in blood and gold dust. Before the woman could do anything, our dad threw a candlestick at the window, which broke into pieces, and shoved us out the broken window. On instinct, I turned my body so I would land on my feet, with my sister protected from the fall.

Landing perfectly, I saw my twin drop down beside me, my dad looking out the window and yelling at us to run, right before he was pulled back in. As soon as the snake woman jumped the three-story house, I grabbed Midnight's wrist and began to run towards the forest behind our house. Which led us to be chased by the woman and others like her, which is where we are now. Midnight crying, knowing what happened to our parents, Lily sleeping in my arms.

'' Stop and face the monsters, My-son.'' Said a feminine voice in my head, suddenly stopping in a clearing, with trees making a circle and a barrier, a small river winding through it, being feed from a pond. '' Now My-son, turn and let your instincts lead you through this fight.'' Midnight looked at me confused, "Why are we stopping Rose? We should be running, not stopping." I looked at him, "Don't you hear it, the voice?" He looked at me confused, ''He can't hear me only those I let can hear me. My-son.'' 'Why do you keep calling me your son, my stepmother died and I never knew my birth mom.' I asked the voice in my head '' All in due time My-son, all in due time, but for now turn and fight the monsters threatening to kill your siblings. Focus on the collar currently wrapped around your neck, and it will aid you in battle.'' Doing as the woman said, I focused on it, wrapping my hand around the rose charm, I felt it change, opening my eyes, I saw a silver whip, with a bronze handle and gold string woven into the silver, in my hand. I looked at my brother then at the monsters coming into view. I put Lily in Midnight's arms and turned towards the monsters, the whip still in my hand. Getting into a defensive stance, I waited for the monsters, who burst into the clearing, not even minutes later. "Ha, you puny demigod, do you really think that you can take us down by yourself? Do you know who we are? We are the snake women, we are the ones chosen by our king, to kill threats to his throne. You should be grateful that we are the ones to kill yo-." She was cut off as a spear sailed through her head, green blood leaking from the wound. Turning around I saw Midnight with a black and gold spear, with bronze forged into the golden blade and a silver shield, with what looked like medusa's head stamped into it.

"You think you can threaten my family and get away with it?" A cold dead look in Midnight's black eyes, before the monsters could attack, a horn was sounded followed by, "Permission to kill Milady?" Then silver arrows raining down upon the monsters. Looking around, I saw a glint of silver in the trees, I looked to Midnight, who only nodded and gave me Lily, who decided to wake up and start crying. Walking out of the trees was a girl, no older than eighteen, with black hair and silver eyes, wearing a black shirt and pants, with a silver jacket and shoes, she walked up to us and pointed a spear at us, "Give me the child and you might live." Midnight glared at her, "Never." He answered. "Who are you?" The girl looked at me. ''They are the hunters of Artemis, goddess of the hunt, the moon, nature, childbirth, and chastity; these hunters hate men, they think that they are nothing more than pigs. Challenge to a race, and if you win they'll lead you to camp, but if you lose they can have Lily.'' Looking to the hunters, who came out after the girl did. "Fine, I challenge you to a race, if you win you can have Lily," The girl gained an evil smirk, "but if I win, you'll lead us to camp." The girl looked at me, "Fine, from this river to that tree and back." She said pointing to a tree that dominated the entire forest. "No weapons, just your speed." I nodded and handed Lily to Midnight who didn't say anything, "No weapons either, male." I grinned, then focused on my whip again, which turned back into the rose charm, I clipped onto the collar, and got ready to run. "Ready runners?" Asked a girl in all silver. "You know the rules, no weapons, powers or magic, just your speed. From here to the tree, then back. Now, on your mark, get set, go." Both of us were off, looking around, I saw the girl in front of me by a few yards, I grinned than ran up the side f a tree, then started to run across the tree branches. Looking down I saw the girl look behind her, grinning upon not seeing me. I just smiled then ran faster. Seeing the tree in front of me, I dropped down a few yards ahead of the girl, who stopped in confusion, then picked up speed glaring at me with anger in her eyes, looking back at the the I ran too it, touching the bark, and missing the small camp inside a line of trees, I turned around and ran back to my siblings. Looking behind me, I saw the girl picking up speed, doing the same I turned around and entered the small clearing, the girl after me out of breath. "H-h-how are you no-ot ou-ut of b-br-breath?" I looked down t her, "I'm a marathon runner, I ran longer and harder courses than what we just did. Now hold up your part of the deal, and take us to camp." The girl just smirked, "We already did." The Twins looked confused, "What do you mean, 'You already did'?"
