Phil walked into his bedroom, closing the door softly behind him. It was another restless, windy night in London and he was having trouble sleeping with all the racket from outside. Wind howling, rain smashing incessantly against the window - it was amazing the whole building didn't collapse! Sighing, Phil placed his cup of tea on his bed side table and clambered into bed, pulling the covers firmly up to his ears. Satisfied, he burrowed underneath the warm blankets and curled up in a ball. Out of the corner of his eye, however, he could spot a shadow in the corner he swore hadn't been there before.
Unfurling, Phil sat up and turned on his lamp. There, huddled in the corner of his bedroom, was Dan.
"Um, Daniel, are you alright?" He asked hesitantly, confused.
Exploding out the corner, blanket wrapped around his shoulders, Dan leaped up and began to pace.
"No Phillip, no I'm not all right. Can't you hear the noise outside? Do you realize how loud it is!"
"Well... Yes actually I do. Make yourself some tea Dan, I'm sure that'll help!" Phil smiled encouragingly. "Here, you can have mine," Phil said, gesturing at the cup beside him. "I've barely had any at all, go on."
"OH, tea? Is that the magic cure? Well I've had four cups already and they haven't done anything except prove I have a small bladder!" Huffing slightly, Dan sat on the edge of Phil's bed and looked at him pleadingly.
"Please Phil, please stay up with me?"
Bemused, Phil looked at his friend.
"Of course Dan, what do you want to do?"
"Play Sonic with me!" Dan yelled gleefully, bounding off the bed and striding out of the room
"C'mon slowpoke!" He yelled from the living room, already setting up the game.
Laughing quietly to himself, Phil pulled on a pair of pajama pants and followed Dan from the room.
"Alright Dan? It's awfully quiet" Phil inquired, almost walking into a wall because Dan hadn't turned on any lights.
"Yes yes, whatever Phil" Dan said yawning, using one hand to turn on the tv and the other to halfheartedly cover his mouth. Sound boomed through the apartment, causing both the boys to jump.
"Turn it down!" Yelled Phil, crouching with his hands over his ears.
"I'm trying! I'm trying I swear I - ah yeah there we go! Nothing like going deaf to help you sleep, isn't that right Phil?"
Giggling, Dan sat on the couch and offered him a controller.
"Bet I can beat you again Phil!"
"Oh as if, I've gotten loads better!" Phil boasted, grabbing the controller and sitting next to Dan.
"You're on!" Dan shouted, pressing play. The game began.
-
Yawning, Phil looked around. Sunlight was streaming through the windows, not a cloud in the sky. In his arms was Dan, snuggled against him, still asleep. Phil struggled to remember what had happened, recalling the late night game session. Around four in the morning they had both fallen asleep, to tired to go to their beds. Looking down at Dan, Phil laughed and kissed his forehead, then hugged him closer and went back to sleep He always loved waking up next Dan in the morning, and he wanted it to last as long as possible.
