A Dinner Surprise
Gohan was beyond tired on normal days. He went to work for 12 hours or more, came home, and then did basically nothing except lounge around. His girlfriend Videl, who had moved in with him a few short weeks ago, did basically everything around the house. She cooked the meals, cleaned the house, went grocery shopping, washed laundry, and any other household things that were typically associated with it. Gohan was tired of the same routine.
He decided then and there he was going to make it up to her, but he wasn't going to tell her about it. He knew that Videl typically went shopping on Friday's each week and this Friday, Gohan had requested to have off from work. He had everything already planned out on what he was going to do. He just prayed it worked out in his favor. He had only ever cooked three times prior so he wasn't very good at it. He was excellent with baking however and so planned to make a cake to go with dinner.
Friday morning came around and Gohan pretends to leave for work like usual. He stays out of view until he saw Videl leave with his mother to go shopping. He knew right off, they would be gone for at least a couple hours. He darts back inside once they were well away from the house and gets busy making a lasagna smothered with hamburger, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and tons of cheese. While that was in the oven cooking, he prepped a chocolate cake. He had it in the oven with the lasagna in a short amount of time.
The hard part for him was always the icing. He loved homemade peanut butter icing on chocolate cake, but every time he tried using the blender, it splattered everywhere. Knowing he had limited time, he decided to risk it anyways, mixing the peanut butter in the bowl with the vanilla icing and starting up the blender. As expected, the icing didn't want to stay contained in the bowl and splattered in all directions. It wound up in his hair, across his face, down his shirt front, all over the counter surrounding the blender, and on the wall behind the blender.
Retrieving the lasagna and cake from the oven, he sets them onto the counter to cool down while he preps to clean up the icing mess. Sensing the early return of his girlfriend, he starts to panic and tries to clean up as much as he could before he hears someone clearing their throat behind him. Glancing back at the doorway, he notices a slightly confused Videl who wasn't sure what to make of the situation.
"Uhh, hey Videl. I uhh, was trying to surprise you. I kinda requested today off work so I could do something for you since you always are so busy here doing everything." He glances over noticing the stunned look she had before she starts looking like she wanted to cry. "Oh please don't cry. I hate seeing you cry."
Videl glances at the cake and then the mess the icing had made, noticing the half empty bowl of icing, and the icing still clinging to the side of Gohan's face. She walks forward, makes sure the oven was off really quick, then takes a closer look at the icing. "Peanut butter icing huh? Well, I don't think half a bowl worth is going to cover that whole cake, so how about we use that icing for something else?" She gives him a playful wink before kissing the icing off his face, grabbing his hand and the bowl of icing, and heading towards their shared bedroom.
Seeing where this was leading, Gohan just smirks a moment and chuckles. "Maybe I should request off more often." He gets silenced with a kiss before the door closes behind them, closing them off from the outside world.
