Harry was depressed. Ron could see it. Ever since they had returned from the Ministry, Harry had been distant and reverted. One day, however, Ron couldn't stand it anymore. As Harry and Ron were walking down to breakfast in silence, as they had every since that dreadful night, Ron stopped, clutching Harry's arm. Harry was stiff.

"What is it, Ron?" Harry asked in a cold, emotionless voice. They were in the Gryffindor common room and apparently they were late to breakfast because the room was absolutely deserted.

"Listen, Harry. I - I need you to know that - that you can talk to me. Okay, mate?"

Harry stood still, staring at his feet, not answering.

"Mate, you're my best friend." Ron stated. He heard Harry sniff and hearing that made Ron's heart break a little. Neither of them were very emotional but they were close. Harry and Ron were basically like brothers and Ron's family had become Harry's family. As Harry sniffed again, he looked up. His eyes were shining.

"I know, Ron," Harry responded in a thick voice, "I know. I guess I've just never really been good with - y'know - feelings and stuff."

"I get it, mate. I'm not either." Ron gave Harry an encouraging smile and Harry smiled back. Harry shifted nervously.

"Do you want to talk?" Ron prompted. Harry looked as if he wasn't sure what he wanted to do, but he hadn't moved.

"Yeah, sure." Harry and Ron missed breakfast that morning and when everybody returned to the common room (it was Sunday), Harry and Ron retired to their room and Hermione, returning from breakfast, accompanied them. Harry shared everything he felt. How he had just found Sirius a couple years ago, how he doubted Sirius was dead for a while, how he felt he had nobody. Hermione and Ron offered what they could in the form of encouragement but they mainly let him speak, uninterrupted.

At the end of Harry's monologue, Hermione and Ron looked at each other, wondering what would be best to do. However, it was Harry who took the next step.

"Thanks, guys. I - I really needed that."

"You bet, Harry," Hermione said. "We'll always be there for you. We're your friends."
