White Horse
AN: Yes, I'm using a Taylor Swift song, but I heard this one after not hearing it in a long time and was instantly inspired. I beat up on Finn a little, but understand that I love him. Not as much as Puck, but I do love Finn in his own way. I know it's short and a bit sudden, but I have these scenes so clear in my head, so I had to write them down.
Say you're sorry
That face of an angel comes out
Just when you need it to
He had prepared a speech. He had waited, because he didn't want to treat her like a rebound. He had set up the auditorium with lights and lunch, just like she had once upon a time. When he saw her walk in, he took her shocked eyes as a sign that he'd done the right thing. It was finally the right time. She came up on stage and he started.
"Rachel, I'm so sorry for how things have been since the beginning of the year. I have been all over the map, and you don't deserve that. So, I gave it some time, and I'm ready now. I care about you, Rachel, and I'd like to be in a relationship with you." She nodded and gave him a half smile. He figured she was just surprised.
"This was very sweet of you, Finn, but I can't." He was surprised.
"I don't understand."
"Can you honestly tell me that you don't want Quinn anymore? Can you swear that if I hadn't told you the truth, you wouldn't be by her side right now?"
"You're not a rebound, Rachel."
"Exactly, I'm just your second choice. You've used our relationship in the past, Finn, and maybe you don't see it, you're using it again. I can't sit here and hope that you won't forgive Quinn. And I can't be content to know that you only want me because the situation was cleared for you. She cheated on you, so NOW it's okay to be with me."
That I'm not a princess
This ain't a fairytale
I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet
Lead her up the stairwell
This ain't Hollywood,
This is a small town
I was a dreamer before you went and let me down
Now it's too late for you and your white horse
To come around.
"Also, though it has little contribution to my decision, I'm currently seeing someone. I do want to be friends with you, Finn. We've always been good friends and good singing partners, and I'd like that to continue." She turned to go, but he grabbed her hand and pulled her back. He pressed his lips to hers, praying that it would change something.
"Please, Rachel. This can finally happen."
And there you are on your knees
Begging for forgiveness,
Begging for me
Just like I always wanted,
But I'm so sorry
"No, Finn." She turned and walked out. He had gotten his own Rachel Berry storm out. Funny how you can love something about someone, even when it's turned against you.
A few weeks later, the group went to Regionals. Finn was still trying to sort out his friendship/feelings for Rachel, but he pushed that aside for the performance. Glee was what he had right now, so he might as well do it right. They had finally gotten to perform "Don't Stop Believing", which had brought the house down.
They got second, which was good enough for them. The group ran off stage, hugging and screaming, and the party continued into the hall. A ways down, Finn noticed that Rachel wasn't with the group. He ran back to the stage, figuring she was doing her own kind of diva excited celebration.
He hadn't expected Rachel to turn him down when he asked her out. He'd been downright shocked at how high they'd placed.
But there weren't really words for Finn's shock at returning backstage and seeing Rachel and Puck making out.
Now it's too late for you and your white horse
To catch me now.
