Pairing : D18, 6918.

Summary : If he had never existed, that was always what's in Dino's mind.

Dino pushed open the door to the ward as quietly as he could, and a small smile was immediately formed on his lips when he saw his former student sleeping on the bed almost peacefully - his usual scowl was removed and he looked just like an angel. And how long had it been ever since he last saw Hibari? Five to six years approximately?

He took slow steps till he reached the side of the bed, and rested the bouquet of pink yarrows that he had bought on the way here on the table aside - that action woke Hibari up immediately.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"... So it's you,"

Dino swallowed deeply as he took the seat beside the bed, sensing the disappointment that was laced in his every single word. Of course Hibari wouldn't be expecting Dino, since they hadn't met ever since he left to Italy and they stopped contacting almost immediately. He finally came back to Japan after receiving news that Hibari got into this really nasty injury after trying to get Mukuro out of the Vendicare prison - he was lucky that he even got out alive.

"Kyoya, can't you just give him up already?" Dino sighed, knowing that it was better to go straight into the point rather than beating around the bush. He knew it was a bad choice, the last time he did this his friendship with Hibari almost ended - in a way it did, when Hibari didn't even say anything to him before he left to the airport. "You told me yourself years ago that it was a mistake and why are you doing all this? Look what did you get yourself into-"

"Herbivore, don't talk like you know me very well."

"At least I know how you are really walking onto the path that would lead to Hibari Kyoya's destruction." During times like this, Dino would always wonder what would happen if the person that Hibari had fell for was him instead of the Mist Guardian. "Can't you see that I'm trying to help you?'

Hibari pulled his cold hands back the instant he felt Dino's warm ones over them.

"I can't see anything already, Cavallone." Dino felt something pricking his heart that moment he heard how strained Hibari's voice was as he muttered those few words out - how did he managed to swallow his pride down and accept the truth that he could no longer see? "Let alone you - I can't see you."

It was times like this that had Dino thinking how his former student's life would be a lot better if Mukuro hadn't appeared - would Hibari spare a glance at Dino, the person who had been holding a torch for him since forever? Those thoughts were constantly swimming in his mind, Dino had to go back to Italy to suppress them before they got too hurtful and - the ring that Hibari was wearing on his finger just showed everything clearer - the answer was just right there.

"You never did, Kyoya." Dino whispered softly.
