Goodbye and Hello

He sat there in his office, looking at a photo of his lost lover. She left him three years ago. He was lost and there were no requests for him to work. His assistant as well as best friend stood in the door way with some files in his hand. The phone started ringing and his assistant picked it up. He dropped the phone and looked at his boss. The first thing that came out of his mouth was her name. He rushed to the hospital and the nurses led him to her room. He saw her and fell on his knees. He dragged himself to her side and lightly took her hands in his. She woke up and looked at him. She smiled the smile he missed so much. "Why didn't you tell me?" "You wouldn't have let me go" "How long do you have?" "Two months" She replied with a hint of sadness in her eyes. "Why must you leave me or limit my time with you?" "I limited our time so it can be less painful for you when the cancer finally takes my last breath" She looked at the sweetest sadness in his eyes. He never let her go. "I love you so much, please don't leave me behind" he pleaded. She smiled and replied, "I love you too" A little boy came in and she introduced the little boy to his father. The man stood up and hugged his son. He spent the last two months together with the three of them.

20 years later…

A man stared at the two tombstones before him. He let the tears fall from his eyes. He had buried his lover twenty years ago and now he had to bury his son. He sat there next to the stones. He felt numb it occurred to him that a blanket of snow covered him. He smiled lightly and stared at the gray sky. He let sleep take him away. He couldn't feel the coldness that seeped into his body. He only felt the warmth and then he saw them. He remembered her fingertips across his skin. The trees blowing lightly and her smiles that warmed him up. He saw his son smiling at him. They reached for his hands and he gladly accepted. He was home. No longer can cancer or car accidents separate them again. He smiled even in death. 'Hello and Good bye'
