Why Couldn't They Just Say Blue?

"'neath cerulean sky, we stand. In azure water obscuring rock-hard land. Sapphire gems close at hand…"
"What the hell?" grumbled Dean swaying slightly. He shivered, cold water lapping around his bare chest.
Sam glanced up from the book. "Ssshh, I need to finish reading this incantation."
"Why couldn't they just say blue?" Dean growled irritably.
"I don't know," Sam hissed, "Now be quiet so I can finish."
"Hurry up then—or my lips aren't the only things that are gonna be blue. Or should I say lapis."
"Yeah, well, you're not the only one. Wait—did you just say lapis?"
