How to Save a Life

Talk with her

He had done that, hadn't he? Talked with her, listened to her all night, until their voices were hoarse and scratchy and their eyelids were drooped with the need of sleep; her curled up in his embrace, her legs half-entwined with his, sitting in his lap., with him hyper aware of every single movement. Her hair, he still remembered, smelt faintly of bakery bread and blood from the carcass of hunt; it was familiar in a sadistic sort of way. She smelt of wood smoke too; sitting so close to the fire nearly every hour of the day, her body had this wonderful smell he had begun to associate with her. Katniss. The Mockingjay. The girl who sang so beautifully; the girl who loved too little because she had endured so much. But he had tried, hadn't he? To lift her of her burden, so that she need not take it all on her own. Their late night talks that seeped into early dawn; that was what he lived for.

And he remembered, with a pang, that she didn't, because otherwise, she'd be here, living and breathing, wouldn't she?

Smile at her

He had smiled. Smiled so much, hoping it would convey what he truly felt about her, hoping it would show that he wanted her to smile back too. But she didn't. She never smiled back, just stare politely back at him, a blank sort of expression on her face, later raising an eyebrow. So he stopped. And Katniss never ever saw that beautiful smile of his again.

Apologise

He couldn't remember. He couldn't effing remember. What had he done, to cause this? If he had wronged, he apologized. He wanted to beg somebody, anybody, to turn back time and let him beg Katniss of her life, to show that she was oh so precious to him, but he couldn't. He never would, ever again.

A/N: Okay, I apologise. This is probably the shittiest story of shittiest stories, but I promised to write! And here it goes! God1801, seriously, sorry. There is something missing, I just don't know what, and this is the second-best I could do under circumstances. I shall probably rewrite it in the near future though; keep on spreading the love and review!

Xoxo,

Aisyah (:
