I pulled the blankets over my head, staring miserably at nothing, and everything. I honestly couldn't believe he was still gone. I suppose it made sense really. I'd never expected him to stay with me. But somehow, I'd come to never expect him to leave. I sighed. I would have to get up soon. Charlie had already left for work, and school was waiting. I threw back the covers and launched myself out of bed, before I could reconsider. I barely glanced out the window, already knowing that the ever present cloud cover would ensure I be stuck in a drab rain coat all day. As I jogged down the steps, realising just how late I was running, I thought about my life, and how it had changed. It'd had been months since… he'd left, and since the zombie movie disaster with Jess I wasn't numb anymore. I was uncomfortably aware and vulnerable. I had Jake now, who helped hold me together with his bright warmth and charisma. I grabbed a muesli bar as I swung my bag over my shoulder and headed out to face another day. I swung open the door I almost walked into who stood on the front door step. I gasped, freezing in stress. I looked down and was greeted with short, spiky hair, wide topaz eyes and a huge smile.

"Alice?" I asked, my voice breaking in surprise.
