Small one shot about friends or lovers, however you interpret it. This is the first time in a long time I have posted anything. I hope you like it.
Suggested Listening: Look No Further, Dido.
They hadn't been friends for long, about a year, when their relationship changed. Nothing drastic happened, they simply grew closer. They were each others support. They soon decided she should move in with him, it would make things less troublesome. They weren't dating or anything of the sort, they just liked the others company.
As the years went on, they never found that 'significant other' and were content with just being themselves with each other. One day, it suddenly occurred to her how exactly she felt about him. As she thought of all the things she could have been or would be able to be, she always pictured him there. She knew for certain that if he wouldn't fit into one of her goals, she would move in a different direction without hesitation. With him, she needn't look any further for happiness. She had found it in him. Even if their relationship wasn't a romantic one, she knew he would always be her support and no one would take that place.
One day she decides it is time to tell him what she thinks.
"I have something to tell you"
"Hn." He thinks he's too good for words sometimes she knows.
"I could have been an Anbu Captain." She says with eyes to the sky.
"Hn." He replied, still not willing to use words.
"I could have been the National Representative of Konoha."
Still nothing on his end, he knows she'll get to the point eventually.
"I could have even been Hokage." She states wistfully.
"Why are you telling me all of this?" He finally questions a bit agitated, feeling as if she is putting all of these missed opportunities on him.
"I wanted to let you know I have accepted that I'm not any of those things. All of the people I'll never meet and the places I'll never see, the friends I could have made and the adventures I could have gone on, I realize that they mean nothing compared to one thing I do have."
"And what might that be?" He asks, clearly stunned.
"You." She states simply.
"I don't understand" He states, visibly confused.
" With you, I don't have to be on guard all the time. I can stop and catch my breath. Be weak and feel free to ask as many questions and be as unintelligent as I wish. I feel safe." She speaks in a soft, light voice. She is being thoughtful but not suppressing with serious. After a little quiet and a small amount of thinking on his part, he finally turns to her and says "Hn."
As he turns away, they both lift their eyes to the bright sky, both with small, content smiles on their faces. They both know they will have to look no further.
