It was generally quiet around the house; it would almost seem like no one was at home. But to those whose ears strained to listen, it was evident that from a room upstairs, chaos reigned. A blur of white and brown darted from corner to corner, pouncing on a neon green tennis ball which, oddly, had a face drawn on it. Karupin leapt, rolled, and landed on his feet—much like a cop in an action flick. And just before moving in for the kill, he stared the ragged ball down, his eyes aglint as if saying, "You have the right to remain silent!"
Launching his weight towards the green sphere, Karupin let out a disgruntled growl as the offending article slipped from under his claws. That was when he decided that a revision of tactics was in order. He settled for an aerial attack.
Sharp blue eyes followed the tennis ball as it rolled near the foot of the bed. The face drawn on it seemed to give him a deriding smirk, taunting him further. He dug his claws through the wood of the bedside table atop which he was perched; and with one swift motion he leapt towards the target, almost knocking a glass of water over. It rolled away from an utterly annoyed Himalayan cat until it was out of sight—out of reach and under the bed.
Karupin meowed and climbed on top of the bed. The tired feline settled between two too deep in slumber to even notice the ruckus that went on around them. A pair of amber eyes slowly opened, catching sight of white fur nestled on the blanket.
"That ball got you again ne, Karupin?" Ryoma said with a smirk, his voice still raspy from sleep. At this, the auburn-haired girl beside him stirred. "Ryoma-kun dame, you shouldn't tease Karupin-chan like that…" Sakuno whispered in mock anger to the boy who stretched comfortably next to her.
Karupin purred contentedly between the warmth of the figures on the bed. That dastardly ball will just have to wait.
Disclaimer: Tennis no Oujisama does not belong to me… I wish Ryoma-kun did, though…
Author's notes: I don't know if it is appropriate to use Karupin-'chan'… but Sakuno being who she is, I guess it just fits… nicely so, if I may add.
To those who submitted reviews for my first TeniPuri fic, "To Come Undone," hontou ni arigatou gozaimasu! Minna-san encouraged me to write another, so here it is. I hope you like it.
