Eve started out her morning like any other one. She woke up, showered, put make-up on, yelled at Shane, got dressed. All in all, it was a nice beginning to a day in Morganville's standards

She softly hummed while making herself a cup of coffee. A smile tugged at her lips as she poured it into her brand new mug. Michael had brought it for her. It was plain white with blood stains dripping from the edges. There was nothing like dark humor to make her mornings manageable.

Michael walked into the kitchen cautiously with a slight frown on his face.

"What's wrong?" Eve asked him while tilting her head to the side.

"I got some news from Amelie. There was a riot at town square last night. A lot of vampires died. Oliver was one of them" he replied slowly.

It took a while for Eve to process what Michael had said. She blinked and felt her knees give out beneath her. A tidal wave of emotions seemed to hit her right in the chest. She didn't know what surprised her more. The fact that Oliver was dead or that she felt crushed because of it. A shaky laughed escaped her lips. If he was here right now, he'd be dismissing her like usual. That bastard would have called her foolish for crying over him.

Although she barely noticed, Michael had got down on the floor and put his arms around her. She hadn't even been this upset when her dad died. Eve supposed it was because she never expected Oliver to die. Dying was something so humane, it never crossed her mind that it would happen to someone like him. 'At least part of him was human' she thought bitterly

Maybe that's what killed her inside. Since his betrayal, she had tried so hard to convince herself that he wasn't human. It was easier for her to pretend that he wasn't the man she thought he was than to admit she lost someone she cared about. She made him into his villain in her head but she was wrong. Then again, he wasn't the hero she once thought of him to be either.

When they had worked together, she liked Oliver. He was a cool person to be around. Not to mention all the times he had saved her butt from being dinner. If she was being honest with herself, he was the main reason her attitude hadn't gotten her killed. Oliver soon became the closest thing she had to family. Sure, Shane and Michael were there for her, but they never protected her like Oliver did. Eve had trusted him, and he lied to her.

There were still times when she could stand being around him after learning the truth. Eve always tried to have small talk when she went into Common Grounds. Despite most of the replies being one worded and sarcastic, there was still a certain softness to his tone. Unless he was having a bad day, then it was just an abundance of glares and snarls.

The last time Eve saw Oliver was a week ago. The conversation didn't go so well. It started with him commenting on her obnoxious choice of hair color and ended with him being flipped off. Eve felt a sob escaped her mouth. That would be the last memory he had of her. He deserved that.
