The Monster

Kim Possible and characters owned by Disney.

Dr Drakken fled down the corridor with the wretched teenage heroine hot on his heels. When he turned a corner, she was ahead of him, a terrible vision of red hair and white battlesuit. When he ran down a corridor, she was at the other end. When he entered a room, she was already there.

Now he was back in his lair's main hall, a cavernous space where his latest creation usually stood, with doors opening from all directions. When he opened the nearest door, she was waiting on the other side. She grinned "What's up doc?"

"How do you-?" He ran back the other way, shouting over his shoulder "And that is the most clichéd li-"

She was already on the other side of the hall. Drakken stopped and whirled round; she was still behind him too. A third Kim entered the hall on the left, and a fourth on the right. Drakken stood in the centre of the hall, turning from one to another as the four teens converged on him. Then all the doors leading into the hall opened, and hordes of identical battlesuited girls streamed out. They formed a circle around him, already ten deep with more joining the throng all the time.

"No!" he cried, "You can't be all them!" As one, the army of Kims assumed a fighting stance. As he looked desperately from the serious face of one green-eyed redhead to another, they held his gaze coolly and waited for a few very long seconds. Then, without a signal or even a smart remark, they charged him. He cried out for his only hope: "SHEEE--"

"--GOOO!"

"God damn it, what?" she answered "I was sleeping!"

Panting, sweating, Dr. Drakken could only look around for a moment. The bedroom was dark. He was sitting up in bed. Shego was next to him, her black hair cascading around her. He wanted to reach for her, but could not breach the aura of irritation she emitted. "I...it...there was...dream..."

"Again?" She was probably about to start yelling at him. He might be sleeping somewhere else tonight.

He hugged the sheets to himself. In a hoarse whisper he said "There were hundreds..."

Shego sighed theatrically. "Hundreds of...?"

He looked down at the green and blue sheets. "Kim Possible."

"Kim Possible." She bristled, and fixed him with a look of disdain. "You're dreaming about Kim Possible."

"She was after me! I couldn't get away! And she couldn't be reasoned with, or bargained with, and she absolutely would not stop--" his voice failed and he waved his hands about impotently.

Shego asked "Have you dreamed about her before?" A horrified look came over her face "Oh God, you're not thinking of her when we--"

"No! NO! No!" Shego's wrath would be a whole other nightmare. "But she was going to get me! And she wouldn't even stop to make fun of me..."

"Well, at least I alwa-" Shego started, but then she just stared at him for a moment, and her expression softened. She reached out to the supervillain and pulled him towards her. "Well, she's not here. And there's only one of her." He rested his head on her chest. "And I'm here," she continued "so if any cheerleaders try to get you, I'll beat them up."

There were no Kim Possibles. Just Shego, and it sounded like she was mocking him, so all was right with the world.

They lay there for while, but then he thought of something and whispered to her. Shego growled, trying to keep her voice level. "You're kidding. No. Drew, that is just stupid. I'm telling you, if I really have to get up and check that Kim Possible isn't under the bed, she will be the least of your problems."
