I wish I had wrote and posted this sooner after doing a drawing about the idea, but I really had to lay down

I had plan to do that after I did other things first, but I ended up laying down first and having a long nap

so yeah it kind of put the plan of working on this idea on hold, but anyway this is just a Prologue Chapter

please leave a review after reading this Prologue, even if this chapter might not be perfect

I think it is still a little okay, anyway please enjoy the first chapter/prologue of A Harte To Heart.

11 years ago...in 2009:

a family was at a park, a mother, a father and three daughters

the eldest daughter had long brunette hair in a pigtail, she had on a white t-shirt with pink stripes, dark blue overalls and pink shoes with slightly loose laces

her eyes were green with so much life in them despite the girl's poor health, she had just turned Nine this year.

the girl's name was Theodora Harte, at times called Theo by her family and close friends.

the next daughter, the middle child had light blue eyes and black hair, she was going to be Seven this year but her birthday wouldn't be for a few more months

she was wearing a sun hat that use to belong to her great-grandmother and taken proper care of, could still look brand spanking new

the girl was also wearing a sundress that was the same color of the sun hat, all white...the dress itself was new.

her name was Elizebeth Harte, named after her great-grandmother and just like her sister Theodora

she too also had a nickname that family calls her by, and that is Libby.

the youngest daughter had at the moment short hair that was a light blonde and her eyes were green just like her elder sister and mother

she like her older sister Elizebeth, was wearing a sundress but instead of a white color it was in a light blue color

her name was Sophia Harte, or just simply called Sophie...unlike her sisters, she is always called Sophie.

little Sophie was going to become four years old soon but like her sister, it wouldn't be until a few months until her fourth birthday.

at this very moment, Sophie was chasing a butterfly "come back butters!"she called out trying to catch the butterfly which when it would fly out of her reach

she would jump up and try to slap her hands together to grab it, but it would then fly even more out of her reach

this time after she jumped and missed catching the butterfly once more, she fell down on her bottom...

"WAAAH!"

"don't be a baby...you know you can't catch a butterfly that way right? I mean...you'll end up hurting it."Elizebeth said

but her words did no comfort the three year old who only bawl even more, she made the six year old double back a little

and she started to feel guilty speaking to her baby sister that way and was about to say sorry

but then Theodora walks over "what's wrong Sophie?"she gets down on her knees and places a gentle hand on the small girl's head

"you upset you can't seem to catch the butterfly?"she asked with a gentle smile

"butters don't want to play with me! want butters play! I want to be friends with butters!"

"it's butterfly..."Elizebeth said to which Theodora looks from the crying three year old and towards her other younger sister and gave her a disapproving glare

"you know very well Sophie isn't able to say Butterfly yet, these things take time and it's fine if she can only call it butters...she is still learning to say words properly."

"yeah well...butter is something you put on bread or in ingredients for cake, she can't keep calling a butterfly butters forever."

as Theodora turns back to face Sophie she then replies "you know it wasn't long ago that you couldn't say the right names, pronunciations and big words."Theodora said

and smiles as she could hear her sister get flustered, starting to walk away from the two.

Theodora knew that she didn't mean to hurt Sophie's feelings, she just wanted to try to explain to the little girl that one needs to be careful when handling or touching butterflies

for a few different reasons...

just then Theodora starts to cough, her two sisters both look at her (one looking up and the other looking behind her), as well as Mr. & Mrs. Harte her parents.

even if she had both her hands over her mouth, blood came out and got not only on her small hands but also on the grass

"ketchup?"Sophie asked confused about the red that came from Theodora and was on both the older girl's hands and on the grass in between them.

"oh no Theodora!"their mother cried out as she goes to her eldest daughter and held her close and looks at her husband in worry

"Alfred I told you it was a bad idea to take her out today, we need to take her to the doctor right away..."Mrs Harte said to her husband,

she then turned to face her two youngest daughters

"mommy is...is Theo gonna be okay?"Elizebeth asked as she held Sophie close, trying to protect her from having to see their big sister like this

and to keep her from touching the blood on the grass

she had Sophie's face close to her shoulder, trying to keep her from seeing what was going on...

"but the girls really wanted to come to the park...I really thought that Theodora would be fine today. but I guess I was wrong."Alfred said

as he looks at Theodora who was now having some coughing fits

"we need to get her to a doctor right now Alfred! her sisters can stay with a friend of mine until we get back from the hospital, we can't waste time."Alfred's wife said

as she hurries to the car but made sure not to go too fast in case it made Theodora's condition worsen

the doctors who have been treating Theodora have yet to give them results of what she has,

and Mr & Mrs Harte hope today will be the day that they finally get the answers they have been waiting for.

Alfred looks down at his two remaining girls by his side, one was hiding her face in the shoulder of the other...

but he knew it was not of Sophie's own will but he could understand why Elizebeth wanted to hide such a sight from Sophie

Alfred gets on one knee and places both hands on both his daughter's heads and gently said to them that Theodora will be okay

but they couldn't come with them to the hospital, the two of them would be staying with a friend of their mother in the mean time until they come to pick the girls up.

"daddy you can't pick us up, you hurt your back remember?"Elizebeth said

and what she said is true, he did hurt his back while at his job but that was not what he meant by he and his wife would pick the two girls up.

"yes well, let's just head to the car. your mother wont wait forever and might take off without us."

after saying this, he could see the water working it's way in the eyes of Sophie

and Elizebeth seeing this, gives him a disapproving look "daddy, even if I can be a little harsh with her at times, even I know that is going too far and you know very well she don't understand sarcasm."

she hugs her little sister close "daddy you dummy."

to which Sophie repeats "daddy dummy!" but without the 'you', Alfred sighs and tells the two to follow him down to the car so they can hurry to the home of their mother's friend.

sadly this will be the last time he and his wife would see their darling girls again...

Present day...2019:

in a kitchen of a apartment, a seventeen year old girl with long black hair in a bun in the back (to keep her hair out of the way when she prepares breakfast)

she had accidentally cut her finger when chopping the the tomatoes for the tomato sandwich that she was making for herself and her thirteen year old sister

who would be fourteen in a few weeks, the girl was Elizebeth Harte

she was wearing a violet sleeveless sweater and blue jean, the apron she was wearing was to make sure she got nothing on her clothes

Elizebeth reach in one of the cabinets close by and pulls out a bottle of alcohol and band-aids and starts to tend to her cut

lucky it was only a small cut so the alcohol didn't sting as much...she tended to the wound at the other part of the kitchen which is where the cabinet for the kitchen's first aid was

for times like these...Elizebeth looks at a picture of herself, Sophie, Theodora and their parents that was taken about 11 years ago at the park.

they were all so happy then two terrible things happen that very day...the day that Theodora cough up blood and had to be rush to the hospital

and the day of the car accident, for some miracle she herself, Theodora and Sophie were able to make it out of it with a few scratches and small cuts

but the girls parents weren't so lucky...all three girls were in the back when it happen, Theodora as weak as she was hug both Sophie and Elizebeth and tried to shield them

Elizebeth thought it was foolish but at the same time, it was the kindest thing that Theodora has done

because if she hadn't did that, then a whole bunch of glass would of did more damage to both herself and Sophie

the doctors were able to get all of the glass from Theodora's back as well as treat her and keep her over a few nights for more tests.

the Harte family never made it to the first destination they were going to drop off the two youngest daughters because of the unforeseeable accident.

after finishing tending to her cut and thinking about that awful day, she went back to work on breakfast as well as lunch

because they didn't have much, they had to get by with very little right now even if Elizebeth does have a part time job

the pay wasn't enough, the apartment they live in only had them living in it as it had been abandon some time ago

but it had a old generator that still works and keeps the power going

lucky the Harte sisters didn't have to share it with other people living in the apartment because once more, it was just the three of them...well two at the moment

Theodora was in the hospital at the moment but she might not be able to stay there for much longer

because Elizebeth knew she doesn't have enough to pay for both Theodora's treatment and making sure they had plenty of food and new clothes.

as for why the girls don't have a guardian well, the man that was acting as the three sisters guardian was very unkind and wasn't as kind as he seem to be

they only stayed with the man for three years, until one night Theodora being eleven years old got both Sophie and Elizebeth up one night

and told them to gather their things before that man comes back, they did as they were told

both the nine year old Elizebeth & six year old Sophie got all their items into their suitcases and bags

Sophie of course needed a little help, but both Theodora and Elizebeth were happy to help her if it means keeping both her and themselves safe from that awful man.

and even if stealing is wrong, Theodora had no choice but to take a stash of money that their former guardian kept under a loose floor board that was in his room

where there was a lot of bottles of alcohol and used cigarettes, the room was a breathing ground of toxic air

and she was glad that she told Sophie & Elizebeth to stay out of the room as she search for the money.

the money was in a very large box it was about enough to get the girls by for a few years, lucky for Theodora she had seen him take it out and put it back in it's hiding place

when she was peaking in the room while sweeping the floor outside with a broom, during that time Elizebeth was cleaning the windows

and Sophie was made to take out the trash, that was way too big for her to carry and when one of them tries to go to help her

they would get slapped or have their hair pulled by that terrible man.

Elizebeth knew that was the first time that they're sister had ever stolen something, even if their parents taught the girls that stealing is wrong

this was a emergency as they needed the money to get out of that town and as far away as possible.

"Libby?"Elizebeth stops thinking about the past as well as stops fixing the last sandwich and turns around and sees that Sophie was up already

she must of smelled the food that was still frying on the pan on the stove.

"your up now, good. take a seat and I will have breakfast finish in a little bit...I made sure to make both our lunches too."Elizebeth said

as she takes two zip locked bags and places both sandwiches in each of them, to keep them fresh and unspoiled before placing them in two brown paper bags

two of the bags had the two girl's names on them, and had drinks and a few other foods too.

as Sophie sits down at the small round table she asks "when is Theo coming home?"

Elizebeth stops frying the food in the pan and bites her bottom lip, she knew it would be good to have Theodora home

but she couldn't keep up with the expanses of paying for Theodora's stay at that hospital for much longer, they were almost out of money.

there had to be another way to get Theodora the help she needs.

"Elizebeth...? when is Theodora coming home?"Sophie asked once again but with concern in her voice for the sister before her, who seemed worried about something.

"I...I'm sure she will come home soon, the doctors said they needed to keep her there for a few more days then she will be out."Elizebeth tells Sophie who smiles

and keeps smiling as Elizebeth gives her a plate of fried eggs and toast with jelly.

"thank you!"Sophie says to her sister before starting to eat her food, Elizebeth had her back to Sophie so she couldn't see her cry

she tried to keep the problems that they were having as far away from Sophie as possible, even if she was technically a teenager now

she was still a kid, both Theodora & Elizebeth wanted to protect Sophie from the cruel side of the world

Sophie seeing how cruel it can be on the day that they lost their parents and the day they became under the care of that monster,

should be the last thing that Sophie should experience as absolute cruel.

after finishing breakfast, Elizebeth told Sophie to meet her outside so they can take the scooter to Sophie's school

she knew that Sophie hadn't yet took a bath first when she woke up to the smell of breakfast,

so she would have to take the bath first then change into the clothes that Elizebeth picked out for her.

Elizebeth was outside holding both her and Sophie's paper bags of lunch, her back facing the brick wall of the apartment.

becoming a little bored while waiting, she started to sing to herself

"you promise you'd stay for the rainbow, you promise to stay when the spring grass grows, promises of your love seems to drift away just like the clouds of a summers day~"

she held the 'summers day' a little longer

until she starts to sing the next words to the song

"oh why did you have to leave me, oh why my love did you have to give my heart away...just like the stars you are so very far, so tell me why...didn't you keep your promise to stay by my side, the wedding bells that never rang

and the tears in their place like the winter we first met that day, the wind was cold but our hearts were warm by the eyes of each other...your love was all I needed to keep me warm, so tell me why did you take that warm away

tell me why did you break the promise we made to each other...you said you stay for the rainbow, you said you stay for when the spring grass grows...you said you stay for the wedding bells...you said you marry me someday

in the spring..."Elizebeth sang but wasn't able to finish as she hears Sophie open the door that leads inside the apartment.

"about time, come on Sophie we need to hurry up and go."Elizebeth said as Sophie nods her head and gets on the scooter with her older sister.

"do I have to keep going to that school...?"

"what do you mean by that Sophie?"

"the kids keep picking on me, because I'm different..."

"well bullies are just poor excuse of human beings that have nothing better to do but make others feel bad so they can feel good, if ask me there just gonna wake up one day and peeve off the wrong person who is gonna give them a black eye."

Elizebeth being one of those who did give her own bully a good old hit in the eye, they had pushed her too far and got what they deserved

any bully that takes comments or any time of bullying too far, will get the karma they have coming...at times it comes either fast or slow, though it should always come fast so those idiotic bullies would get what's coming to them

and she wished she knew about Sophie's bully problem sooner,

but she was glad that her sister finally open up about it now instead of waiting for too long before it became too late

if it became too late, a lot of emotional damage could happen.

maybe she could talk with the teacher, to ask them what has been going on at Sophie's school to see how far the bullying has gotten and how bad it is.

as Elizebeth was driving the scooter down the street she thought she saw something, that look like a toon in a dark alleyway

it was day time now, so the alleyway had a little light going into it but it was still a little dark in the alleyway

but when she was looking for the source of what she thought she seen

her sister cries out for her to look out, Elizebeth turned her attention back on the road

they almost hit a boy, who looked to be around between both Elizebeth and Theodora's age (Theodora had turned Nineteen a few months ago.)

"hey why don't you watch it girly!"the boy said

"me watch it? ever heard of no jaywalking bub?"she shouts back at him as she was thinking about getting up off the scooter and slapping the guy,

but decided to keep this conversation as short as possible

without the need of slapping some sense into this guy.

"ever heard about keeping your eyes on the road?"

"hey I thought I saw something in that alley back there, ain't my fault it distracted me you blockhead!"Elizebeth said

"oh sure, you couldn't of just stop looking enough to keep your eyes focus where your going."the unknown boy said with a smug smirk which really made her want to hit him

but she keeps herself parked on her scooter, Sophie and her had no time to play games with this jerk who should know that he shouldn't be jaywalking in this part of town.

"I got no time for your bull turd little boy, I need to drop off my sister at her school before I head to my own school."

"I'm eighteen, so I ain't so little...what about you miss scooter?"

"I'm...seventeen...just turned it this year."

"so I'm a year older than you, ha! so you should show me a little respect."

"just because your a year older than me doesn't mean I should respect ya, your the one who had no business jaywalking!"

"and you had no business taking your eyes off the road, you could of got both yourself and your little sister there badly hurt if it wasn't me but a vehicle instead...and if she didn't see it coming."

having enough of the boy, she takes off making her scooter go around him and head to Sophie's school

she could only hope she wouldn't have to see that guy again...

to be continued
