Just so you know, this is my first work and I haven't caught up with RWBY yet so criticism is welcome. Jaune will be replaced by my OC and this won't be the most lore friendly fic. Hope you don't mind.

*First day of Beacon*

The bullhead filled with students has just unloaded its cargo at the doorstep of Beacon. A white haired girl named Weiss Schnee in a white dress armed with a rapier is scolding Ruby Rose for accidentally destroying some bottles of Dust. As she yells, a stray bottle bounces along the ground toward a boy with brown hair and a black hoodie with jeans. He has dual shotguns strapped on his back. He looks at the bottle of fire Dust, quickly picks it up, pockets it, then starts speed walking away.

A black haired girl, Blake Belladona, sees this but decides not to do anything, though she is suspicious of the boy, who appears to be looking around to see if anyone saw him.

*A few hours later*

After the headmaster's, Professor Ozpin's, speech, the first-year students began rolling out their sleeping bags.

The unknown boy from before is sleeping in the corner, facing away from anyone else, with his shotguns in his duffel bag. Except he's not sleeping. He's actually fidgeting with the red bottle.

He hears footsteps approaching him and quickly hides the bottle. He rolls over to see the black and red haired girl from before and a blonde girl walking towards him. "C'mon Ruby, you gotta make SOME friends, you can't just hang out with me all day," says the blonde while putting her arm around Ruby/dragging her along. "But what if nobody likes me? You heard what happened with Weiss," replied Ruby. "Yeah well, she doesn't like anyone," the blonde says back. "Oh, let's talk to him!" The two girls begin walking over to him.

"Hi there," the blonde starts. "I'm Yang Xiao-Long and this is my sister, Ruby." Ruby waves at the boy, not saying anything. The boy looks them both up and down, then raises an eyebrow questionably. "I know, we don't look like sisters, but we are," Yang says with a hint of annoyance. "Whatever," the boy says. "Names Joseph. Now, what exactly do you want?" "Oh I'm just helping Ruby make friends," Yang answers. "That's great and all, but I'm really tired and I'd like to go to sleep," Joseph said with a yawn. "Oh, ok. Well, have a good night Joshua," Yang said walking away. "Yeah you too."

*12:00 midnight*

Blake awakens in the night to someone walking around. She opens her eyes to see the boy that took the Dust sneaking away. Suspicious, she silently gets up and follows him. He walks down the hall, constantly watching for anyone. He then rounds a corner and Blake stops. She peeks around the corner to see him take out the bottle of fire Dust. He pops the cork off...

And drinks the contents in one gulp.

Blake is surprised by this, and watches as his body begins shaking and his eyes flash red. Then, as suddenly as it starts, he stops shaking and throws the bottle away. "Not today," she hears him whisper to himself. He starts walking back from the way he came and Blake ducks into a bathroom before he rounds the corner. After waiting until she no longer hears his footsteps, she leaves the bathroom, sneaks back to her sleeping bag, and goes back to sleep, wondering what that was all about and if she should confront him about it.

*The next day*

The first year students were excited for the initiation. Ruby could barely sleep so it was a miracle that she didn't see the boy, whose name she had learned was Joshua, drink the Dust last night. She was planning on confronting him about it after initiation.

She was snapped back to reality as Ozpin began his short speech "For years, you have trained to become warriors. And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams," Professor Goodwitch began. "Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates. Today." Joshua started looking nervous about teammates. Maybe it had something to do with his thing with Dust. "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon." Ozpin continued. Joshua's eyes widened at this, adding to Blake's curiousity. "So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."

"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." This was perfect. If she could lock eyes with Joshua, it would make finding out what is up with him much easier. "Landing?" Joshua said, the first Blake hearing him talk. "After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest,"Ozpin continued, ignoring the remark. "You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy anything in your path, or you will die." Shocked gasps and murmurs spread across the first-years, but Joshua just looked over the forest. "You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation. But our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the temple containing several relics. Each pair must choose one, and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately.

"Are there any questions?" Nobody raised their hands. "Good, now take your positions,"Ozpin finished, and one by one the students were launched into the sea of green.

CUT! So what did you guys think? Again, criticism is welcome as this is my first fic and it will help me improve. I don't have a beta reader, I finish then read through looking for grammatical fuck ups, so I might miss some. See you next time, I hope
