(A/N: I was listening to Katy Perry's song Wide Awake, and this little story just unfurled itself in my brain. I ran for paper and a pencil and immediately wrote it down. Now Fanfictioners can see it. Xp)

Disclaimer: Phineas and Ferb belong to Dan and Swampy. If they belonged to me, Ferb would never shut up T.T (Gotta love them British accents).

Ferb is Wide Awake

I sat awake in bed with my favorite book open in my hands, The Odyssey. I glanced at the clock on my side table. The numbers 12:27 shined back at me.

I sighed lightly and set my book down, looking across the room. My red-headed step-brother was sound asleep, arms curled around our pet platypus.

I leaned back and rested myself against my bed's headboard.

I can't sleep. In fact, I'm wide awake, and I don't know why.

I glanced at my book, then to Phineas. After I assured myself that he was asleep I picked my book back up and opened it to the very middle. Resting between the aged pages was a pressed rose. I glided my fingers over the crunchy, red petals. My heart dropped with sadness.

We were on The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. I was working on some contraption to see what the wind trajectory was. But I was listening to her.

She was explaining about how her father never spent any real time with her because he always brought along work.

"I just don't know what to do." She had said with a sigh. I watched her steadily as she leaned on the railing, overlooking the city. She glanced over her shoulder and we made eye contact. I took a breath, attempting to calm my rapidly beating heart and spoke with my soft voice.

"Well, sometimes, if you love somebody, you have to meet them halfway."

"Halfway, huh?" She inquired and turned back towards the 'City of Love'. I watched her a moment longer, before turning and spotting a small flower stand behind me. I took one more look at the black-clad girl at the railing before turning and rushing to the stand.

The man behind the counter smiled at me. "And what can I get you m'boy?" I pointed silently at the red roses behind him. He nodded and asked, "How many would you like?" I held up my pointer finger, indicating that I only wanted one. He grabbed a single, beautiful rose and turned back to me. "That'll be $1.50." I dug the money out of my pocket and took the rose, holding it carefully. I just hoped it would make her feel better.

But when I turned around the brown-haired beauty of my dreams was speaking to someone on a hover craft. I sped up, wondering what was going on. There was a moment of hesitation, and then she was climbing into the hovercraft.

I reached the railing, just as the craft took off. The girl I've been pining after since a few months ago turned back and waved to me.

"Bye, Ferb. Thanks for everything!"

I watched her in silence. My arm dropped to my side and the rose slipped from my fingers. It fell to the ground with a soft thud.

I looked down and watched as a small breeze teased it to the edge. I saved it before it fell and held it against my chest. There was an odd mixture of pain and sadness emanating from my ribcage. My eyes fell to the ground and I trudged back to my wind monitor.

I slowly closed the book and tried to control the ball in my throat. Before I pushed it down however, a small whimper escaped. Perry awoke to this and clambered out of Phineas's bed and onto mine. He rubbed his head against my elbow. I smiled, picking him up and holding him against my chest.

I stroked his teal fur as I regained my composure. I began to feel drowsy.

Finally. I thought.

I laid my book aside and laid down myself. With Perry still in my arms, I closed my tired eyes and finally got much needed rest.
