Cauldron Cake. He needed Cauldron Cake.

He sauntered down the corridors, wanting to run towards the kitchens but needing to keep his famous cool and collected air. It'd been a long day, to say the least, and James knew that if he did not get some Cauldron Cake immediately, he would go completely insane.

Tickling the pear, he bounced on his heels anxiously as he waited for the entrance to open. As soon as it started to creak open, he moved to go inside but was stopped as a wave of red hair appeared at the doorway.

"Thanks Mithy!" she cried over her shoulder. "I'll see you soon!"

She turned and stopped in her tracks as she spotted James - as did he when he saw the pile of Cauldron Cakes in her arms. Trying to pry his eyes away from them, he muttered a greeting and pushed past her into the kitchen. Ignoring Lily Evans wasn't easy, especially when he was so drawn to her, but it needed to be done. Hounding her would only make her hate him more, and he couldn't seem to stop himself from being an arrogant bastard when she was around. If he gave himself an inch, he'd take a mile, and it'd all go downhill from there.

"Mithy," he smiled warmly as he greeted the house elf. "I am in dire need of some Cauldron Cakes, could you bring me some please?"

"Mister James, I'm so sorry but...Miss Lily has taken the last of the Cauldron Cakes," the elf replied timidly. "We don't have any more, but there should be a new order in around Thursday-"

The elf's voice trailed off into the distance as James quickly stalked out of the kitchens. He could see Lily's mane at the end of the corridor, and he started into a run in attempt to keep up with her.

"Evans! Merlins sake, wait up, Evans!"

The redhead turned on him, confusion written all over her face.

"James? Is there a problem?" she inquired. He didn't miss the use of his first name.

"Yeah...er, um," he spluttered, unsure how to phrase things. He pointed at the large pile of Cauldron Cakes in her possession. "Listen, Evans, I need a few of those. Badly. Like, I really need them. I'll do whatever you want, just please, please give me some Cauldron Cakes."

"Wh-Wha-" Lily tried to compose herself. "What's this about James? You haven't talked to me all year and now here you are demanding...demanding Cauldron Cakes, as though nothing's changed, as though we're friends? No, no, you're not getting your precious Cauldron Cakes from me. Go get your own."

She turned on her heel to leave, but he caught her wrist, turning her back. "There aren't any more, Evans. That's the problem. Look, I'm sorry for ignoring you but...well, I just need to. For me. It's too hard to be around you and not make a fool of myself. But none of that matters right now. I just really need Cauldron Cakes. Please!"

She sighed, narrowing her eyes and searching his face. "Alright..." she dragged out. Her face broke out in a smirk. "I'll give you all of these Cauldron Cakes, if you'll go on a date with me, Potter"

Amidst his shock, he found humor in the fact that she'd practically mirrored his tone and phrase all those times he asked her out. He stood speechless, unable to believe what had just happened.

"Deal. I suppose I could go on a date with an 'arrogant toe-rag' for the sake of Cauldron Cakes."

She chuckled, handing him the large sum of the sweets. "Oh, I'd hope so. I'll see you Saturday, Potter, at the Three Broomsticks."

She didn't wait for a reply, instead turning and walking back towards the common room. He stood there for a while, stunned by the events that had taken place. He then smiled - he'd finally gotten Lily Evans, all thanks to his favourite food.

Cauldron Cakes were truly magical.
