A/N: This is just a little peek into the lives of Kakashi and Naruto as Kakashi raises Naruto in place of his parents who died. I've had this sitting on my computer for quite a while so I thought I'd share it with you guys. I'm thinking about expanding this into a full blown fic instead of just a drabble (though that will be after I finish my other fic). It would end up being romance, of course; I was thinking of pairing Kakashi with Sakura (a pairing I usually don't like, but would totally work for the idea I have). I will post more on my profile later, but let me know what you think.
Disclaimer: I do not, nor will I ever, own Naruto.
Bits and Pieces
"Kashi-nii-chan?" A 5 year old Naruto tugged on the man's pants.
Kakashi turned his attention from his copy of Icha-IchaParadise to his mentor's son, who he had adopted a little over 3 years ago.
The blonde, who looked so much like his father, blushed a little. "Umm..."
Putting his book aside, the white haired man pulled the little boy up onto the couch to sit next to him. "What is it Naruto?" He patiently asked, turning his body to look at the child.
"Well..." the child blushed a deeper crimson than before. "If it's okay..."
Kakashi was a bit surprised at the kid's hesitation and embarrassment—he usually just jumped right into things and said whatever was on his mind—just the way his mother used to.
"CANICALLYOUTOU-CHAN!' The blonde yelled in his face all too loudly and quickly for Kakashi to catch what was actually said, or rather, yelled.
Placing his hand on the midget's head, he said "Naruto, if you say something that fast, I won't be able to understand."
Blushing more profusely than before, the little blue-eyed boy took a deep breath and reiterated his question, "Can I call you tou-chan?" Kakashi sat in stunned silence at this—he didn't know what to say. He never expected that he would want to call him that. He wasn't the kid's father, after all, but he was the one who had raised him these last few years (with the help of Rin and Obito) and he was probably the closest thing the kid would get to a father since his parents died.
Taking the prolonged silence as a bad sign, Naruto spoke again. "You take care of me and play with me and stuff and—"
Kakashi cut the boy's ramblings off, "Are you sure you want to call me that Naruto?"
Naruto grinned and nodded his head vigorously. "Yep!"
Kakashi couldn't help but to return the smile. "As long as you're sure…"
"Tou-chan!" the little boy called to him a moment later.
"What?"
"I just wanted to say it," Naruto grinned before trotting away to play with the dogs.
Naruto calling him dad made him a lot happier than he thought it would.
