The "UnSeeing" Eye

She collapsed to her knees, delicate fingers cupping her mouth. No, no…no…it couldn't be. Naruto was…gone? She didn't want to believe… couldn't believe, because if she did then her entire world would crumble.

She should have foreseen something like this. She was a Hyuuga, the heiress to a clan infamous for their "all-seeing eyes." It wasn't just the use of their doujutsu that gave them that name, it was the ability to pay attention to and take note of every detail in their surroundings, to see and know everything that went on around them. How could she have let herself be so deluded, so blind?

There must have been signs, something that would have told her that something was about to happen—but, no, she wasn't a young girl anymore, she didn't follow and watch Naruto the same way she had in her youth. There was plenty that she must have missed out on.

Naruto had left the village before, and that she managed to deal with, but she had known that he would return. Now, as Tsunade filled the remainder of the Mt. Oinari Twelve in on the who, what, when, where, and whys, there was no promise of his return. He could be gone for good.

And with Sakura! Why Sakura? Sure, the blonde had liked the pinkette during their Academy days, but Hinata thought he'd outgrown that! Oh sure, he had hooked up with Sai for a good while there, everyone knew that, but Naruto was a curious, young, healthy male; it had just been a phase. A phase.

You should have confessed to him sooner, a treacherous little voice in her head whispered. Hinata struggled to not let her tears fall. Yes, she should have been braver, more confident, maybe then it would have been her Naruto had left with, instead of Sakura.

There was something she wasn't catching on to. Kiba apparently knew something she didn't, as well as Shino. She was almost tempted to activate her Byakugan and scan everyone in the room. Almost. Her heart felt too much like mush at the moment, and it wasn't a good kind of mush.

Had she activated her Byakugan, she might have noticed the second, tiny chakra systems forming in the bellies of Sai and Uchiha Sasuke. But she didn't, and the answers she so desperately wanted to know, the reasoning she desperately wanted explained, remained unseen variables.
