FOR THE LOVE OF MAN.
If there was someone Ryuga trusted then it was Buck, a hound. Ryuga had found him as a pup being bore down by a pack of wild dogs and had saved him. Why? Love was the answer. Ryuga's father had said- "Love saved the devil's life and love is what will take it away from him." And that's exactly what happened.
Buck was wild, wilderness coursed through his veins, but the Love for Man bound him to civilisation. He never jumped nor wagged his tail nor did any of the things normal dogs did to show affection. His eyes said it all. He was Ryuga's constant companion. Once a stable boy had tried to harm Ryuga. An argument led to a full- fledged fight and soon Ryuga stood at the end of a muzzle. But Buck, in fury, bore down the boy and that was the end of him. There was a lot of hue and cry about this but what remained unknown was that it was all planned. Ryuga had a business rival, Doji. A lucrative deal had slipped through Doji's fingers and had found its way to Ryuga's door. Ryuga had been successful but, Doji suffered and in his quest for money he lost everything; business as well as family. He had to watch as Ryuga's business flourished. The more he watched, the more mad he became with fury and slowly started to plan his revenge. He had bribed the stable boy to get Ryuga arrested. Ryuga had another deal coming and if he would have been in jail, Doji would have clinched the deal. But his plan failed and Buck destroyed his last chance. A lust for revenge consumed Doji's life.
It is believed that hate, anger, greed are the most dangerous of human emotions. But is that a fact? I believe love is man's biggest enemy. Love can build as well as break one's life. Love is what gives rise to various emotions termed as hate, anger, lust, greed, obsession, sacrifice, humility etc. Love for his family, money, had sown the seeds of revenge in Doji. Love for Ryuga had made Buck tamed. Love for life, love for the helpless had caused Ryuga to save Buck and this Love…destroyed them all.
Buck was outside the house, resting. Suddenly he cocked his ears. Something was wrong. The wilderness in him sensed it. A bullet shot pierced the silence of the night shattering it like glass. Buck dashed into the house. The scene which confronted him was not what he had expected. His Lord lay in a pool of blood and beside him stood a man laughing like a lunatic. Blood surged in Buck's ears. He charged at Doji, his vision tinted red. Doji pressed the trigger but the last thing he felt was a strong pair of jaws cutting off his final supply of air. Leaving his victim dead, Buck staggered over to Ryuga. Blood ran down as tiny rivulets from his chest. His eyes which used to shine like lamps in the dark were now dull and lifeless. Buck nuzzled close to his master's neck and closed his eyes. He would follow his master wherever he went, no exception. What happened that fateful night was just like Ryuga's father had predicted. It was exactly as he had said it would.
