Chapter 1

Her husband was so rich and powerful, and she was so beautiful, anyone else would think they were the world's most perfect couple. But little did anyone know that the perfect marriage was nothing but a scam. She hated him with her whole beautiful being and kept him at arm's length, no matter his attempts to be close to her.

"Why do I have to be here?" she asked. She was starting to think that it had all been some sort of trick to get her to eat dinner with him. Schneizel smiled.

"I wanted to show you off. You only get nice things to show them off, C.C."

"To make others feel bad about themselves?"

"That's just a side effect I can't help. Now smile; I didn't bring you here to frown and scare everyone off."

But she didn't smile. Instead, she scowled as they went into the dining room because when they went into the dining room, she found somebody she didn't really feel like seeing in her life ever.

"C.C., this is Lelouch vi Britannia. He's my friend. I hope he'll be your friend too."

"Charmed," she said sarcastically. Disgustedly, she stared at his hand before giving him her hand. She shivered as he felt his lips kiss her hand.

"Lelouch is the Duke of Pendragon and is my distant cousin and third in line for the Crown."

"Pendragon?"

For some reason, she had heard of Pendragon before but couldn't really remember why or from who. Pulling her hand away, she kept it by her side as she looked up into his purple orbs. Why did Pendragon sound so familiar?

"We should probably sit," said her husband.

"Sounds good," replied the Duke.

C.C. sat down for the worst dinner of her life.

. . .

"Oh, dear. I'm sorry, C.C. and Lelouch, but I have to go." Schneizel waved at the messenger who had interrupted their meal. "It looks like the King needs me."

"It's okay," she said. But it wasn't really.

"Oh, wait. How are we all going home?"

Lelouch said, "C.C. can take my carriage."

"How will you go home?"

"I can walk."

"This late at night?"

"I also have something I need to take care of. It's fine. I don't mind. Also, it's better that I walk instead of C.C."

She rolled her eyes. What was he trying to be, a gentleman? Was he trying to impress her or something? Because it was just annoying her.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Thanks, Lelouch," said her husband. He turned to her. "Okay, C.C. Go with Lelouch to his carriage. I'll see you at home later."

She closed her eyes when he kissed her but only because it disgusted her so much.

Outside, the Duke's carriage was waiting for them. It was very pretty, with polished, shining wood and plush seats. Waving away the servant, he opened the door for her and helped her inside.

"It was nice to meet you," he said.

She nodded, and he closed the door softly. She saw him step back as he said something to the coachman. When the carriage began to move away, the wheels rolling over the bumpy road, she looked back to see if he was still there - the handsome duke - but there was nothing but a shadow. Turning back around, she faced forward.

Oh, well, hopefully that would be the last time she ever saw him.
