Short, post Not Fade Away.
As usual, I own only Penni, Jer, and Kelli- none of whom will be mentioned in this story. Would that I owned Conner, or even vice versa, but that's only a fantasy, so it deserves no place in my abused disclaimer.
Compliments are very welcome, constructive criticism is acceptable, flames are never welcome.
Reborn
Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. - It's harsh, and cruel. - But that's why there's us. Champions. It doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world was what it should be, to show it what it can be.
-Angel
Some say it was a tornado. Most say it was an earthquake. But in the morning, half a city block was gone, and no one had seen what happened. There were no survivors, and few bodies. The tabloids jumped on it, saying that demons had attacked LA. The papers covered it with laughing references to the tabloids, but carefully, because they half believed it themselves. TV Newscasters fastened polite, fake worried looks on their faces to cover their terror. By the end of the week, the site had been mostly cleared of debris. Within a month, the city began rebuilding. By the end of the year, it was, at least on the surface, as if nothing had ever happened. But that day- That first day, when the confusion began, and the whole city wondered what had happened, and those who knew weren't telling- on that morning, when the dust cleared, an apparition could be seen in the haze. Had anyone been looking- no one was- they might have made out three figures standing in the rubble. Two teenage boys, standing together each on one side of a girl holding a baby. All looked lost, yet strangely determined. Theirs were faces that had lost everything, and now would give more.No where to go.
Nothing to do.
No one to take care of them.
Except each other.
From the ashes of tragedy, the phoenix will rise. With the death of guardians, new heroes are born. Protectors fall, but when the fires die and the smoke fades, the children of justice rise up to protect, fight, and to carry on the legacy of champions.
So Legends are born.
So Heroes are made.
So may yesterday's Champions never fade away.
The End
((A/N: The children are Conner, Penni, Jeremiah and baby Kelli.))
