Slipping Away
Zazu circled around Mufasa's head before swooping down on his shoulder. Mufasa sat down and watched as Scar –Taka— slink down into the gorge. It sent him thinking.
What happened to him?
Taka had once been his brother. They had played together and laughed and had been brothers. Mufasa frowned to himself. What had happened to that?
He tried to salvage his relationship with his brother but everything had just started slipping away when he had been declared future king. Taka became cold and distant and nothing seemed to make him laugh or smile anymore. Everything just went to hell.
Some part of Mufasa, the part that wasn't guarded and wary of Scar at all times, wanted that brotherly bond back. Mufasa stood up and began climbing the rock again. Maybe… he would apologize to Taka. At least try and mend things to the point where Taka wasn't so bitter. Yes. That was what he'd do.
"Oh look, sire, the herd is on the move." Zazu commented. Mufasa turned around.
"That's odd…" Suddenly, the sound of claws scraping frantically across the rock reached his ears. Scar leaped up and stared at him.
"Stampede… in the gorge," he forced out through heavy breaths. "Simba's down there!"
