Prologue

Cilan's POV

Ever since the day I was brought into this world, into Striaton City, there was something different about me.

I felt I had something no other person had when they were born. Something like an extra ingredient to the recipe of a human being.

It nags at me every day about what exactly could it be...

And why am I being hunted down for it?

What do my brothers have to do with it? What do Ash and Iris have to do with it?

I don't even know what it was, so—how would I hand it over when they finally caught me?

...I don't even know who they are.

It's has to be... It must be someone I know... Someone from my past that I don't even remember...

But who could it even be? I... I don't remember anyone that wanted something so bad from me...

I can't let them get to me... They can't get inside my head... Not even the slightest...

I cannot ever let them in... For their sake, I cannot...

(Intermission)

"How long do you think this will go on, Cilan?"

I met the gaze of my red-haired brother, looking into the shadows of his red orbs, shining in the darkness. We were all tired and weary, tried of this, tried of that, just tried of everything happening. We had no idea where to go next besides home, but they were for sure to find us there if they couldn't find us anywhere else in Unova. They were armed with weapons while all we had was our Pokemon. We couldn't risk the lives of our Pokemon anyways, so we were basically unarmed completely.

I shrugged with little effort and leaned in towards our little huddle. "I have no idea," I replied, staring off into the distance a little, looking our for them. I took a long pause to gather my thoughts all into one idea. "But whatever unfolds to happen... You do what I say," I looked at Chili long enough for him to see me and get his attention. "And Chili.. If it involves me staying behind to fight them alone, you go with Cress without the slightest protest and do what he says. Do you hear me?" I saw Chili's eyes begin to quiver, small, shining tears forming at the corner of his eyes.

Chili sniffled as more tears formed in his eyes, but stood firm to staying strong. "You better damn-well be careful..." He whimpered through his tears as he spoke in a hushed whisper, touching my hand with his and staring into my eyes. "You know we can't lose you..." He chocked on more on-coming tears. Cress put his arm around his shoulder and calmed him, wiping his tears and patting his back. Chili continued to gaze strongly into my eyes to make sure I understood what I was doing.

"And Cress," I turned to look at my blue-haired brother, Chili doing the same. Cress turned at met my gaze, staring into my eyes close to how Chili had. "Please... Stay strong and don't worry about me. I promise I will meet you guys back at home no matter what happens," I pulled my two brothers close and listened to their breathing as we sat their in the middle of the Pinwheel Forest.

The sound of rustling leaves and walking people could be heard in the distance.

I snapped my head up and looked around.

"Cilan?" Chili whispered to me, still slightly crying.

"Go," I replied instantly in a hushed whisper. I stood up, pulling my brothers with me as well. They looked confused at me as if something strange had come over me. But it wasn't anything strange...

"What?" Cress replied in a louder whisper than mine. His gaze was wild and puzzled to death, unbelievable how wide his eyes were.

"It's them. You have to go."

"But Cilan-!"

"Chili, you and Cress are going back to Striaton City," I told them urgently, my words pouring quickly from my mouth like a drink. "Please make it there before the morning. If not, hide away from there in the Dreamyard till it's dark again. If they are near, split up. Then make your way back to the Striaton Gym. Do not leave it. Ever. Remain there and use whatever we have. Do not use or answer the phone unless it is me. Make sure no one knows you're there or else they will find out one way or another," I slowly started to shove them away from me.

"Cilan, this is crazy-"

"Go!" I loudly hissed at them, forcefully pushing them away from me with all my might. Their bodies jerked and Cress almost fell over at my force. They both gazed into my eyes at the same time and with my eyes, I told them:

"Now,"

They both rushed smoothly and quietly in the opposite direction as to where the people were coming from. As for me...

As for me.

I growled a little under my breath, trying to keep myself from going into a state of panic. I was so focused on figuring out how to keep my brothers safe that I forgot to think where I was to go. I promised them... I promised them that I'd be safe, that I'll meet them back home.

I can't let them down. I can't lie to them.

I burst into a sprinting speed, my running skills having strengthened since the beginning of our run from them, in the opposite direction of my brothers and them. I didn't have an aimed target, just to get out of their sight. They mustn't find me. They can't figure out that we separated. If they did... I can't even imagine if they did. It'll be all over, but we will have lost our fight to them.

"Can't let it happen..." I thought loudly to myself in my head as I ran with all I could. "Can't let it happen..." I repeated it to myself over and over again, giving myself the motivation to push forward, to not give up. Everyone's lives were on my hands. They were depending on me.

"Can't let them down..."

"Dammit! Where are they?!"

"They were here a second ago! Where could they have gone?!"

I stopped in my tracks and quickly stumbled behind a near-by tree. Looking off into the distance, I could see them, scouting the place where my brothers and I once where huddled and talking. They furiously hunt the area with their Pokemon's aid, cursing and yelling. I deeply hope that my brothers got far before they got there. I leaned against the tree, breathing heavy and resting on its bark. I couldn't stop now. I had to keep running.

"They must have hidden a ways back,"

"Yeah, let's go back and look!"

I heard them leave off into the other direction. I stayed still and held my breath till I could barely hear them before I began to run again. I tried my best to still remain quiet in case they could hear and see me, making sure every move I made was careful.

Isn't it stupid that we're running for some reason that we don't know? All we know is that we've got what they want, but what guarantees that we have it with us if it's an object of some sort? All I have is my Pokemon and my wallet. What could they possibly want? My money? My vintage? My ID?

"Looks like we found the jack rabbit,"

I jerked to a halt and looked up terrified at who was in front of me. This was it. I reached my end. I have reached the end of the line. My brothers. They better be safe, far away from here. I couldn't let them get hurt. Not even the slightest.

"Don't you worry, my green-haired burden. Your brothers will be joining you soon. I promise you won't go alone..."

I felt myself weaken to my knees, surrendering. I was out of breath. I couldn't run. This was it. This was it.

I was done.

The enemy rose the barrel of his weapon in the air, gathering all his strength to come down on me. I put my hands over my head in defense, making my last effort to win. I couldn't let him take my brothers. I won't let them have what they want.

I won't let him get in my head.

I won't let him in...

"Do you see them? Any of them?"

"No sir, I don't!"

"Not just one?"

"I'm sure-!"

Gunshots and a loud scream sounded in the distance. The group of men turned to each other with eyes wide, bodies frozen. A smile crept across the face of the alpha.

"Looks like we've got our prey, my men..."

They immediately went charging to the sound of someone begging for mercy and kicking. Rushing through the trees, the leader jumped up in front. As the source of the sound got closer and closer and could be seen in the distance, the leader felt a strange feeling of shock setting over him like a sudden wave crashing into the beach of his mind.

Eyes wide, the men stopped in their tracks. The leader stared for a few moments, his men slowly approaching the scene before the leader stopped his foot and gave a hiss of displeasure. His men remained staring, wide eyed at the body on the ground.

"Dammit!" The leader roared into the darkness of the forest, into the night. "He got away again!" He vengefully kicked the lifeless body of his right hand man, lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds in him and his weapon gone, unarmed. The leader stared furiously at the body, angry at the one who'd done this.

"Boss?"

"I won't let him get away next time we see him. Not after this."
