They were in the middle of nowhere when Dean pulled off the road into a little dirt area. He turned off the car and let his head fall back against the seat. "I need coffee. I'm getting way too tired."
Sam blinked in the darkness, struggling back to full consciousness. "You want me to drive?"
"You're just exhausted as I am, and God knows where the next motel is. I haven't seen so much as a house for the last hour." He yawned. "I say we just sleep here, in the car. It's not like we haven't done that before."
"Alright, then I'm gonna get out and stretch for a minute." Sam opened his door and stepped out into the cool night. He stretched his cramped muscles and saw Dean walking away from the road a bit. Assuming he was going to the bathroom, Sam turned away to give him some privacy, and sat on the hood of the Impala, watching the sky.
Dean sat on the hood beside him, startling him out of his daydream. "Moon's almost full."
Sam nodded and inched a bit closer to Dean. He laid his head on his older brother's shoulder. Surprisingly, Dean didn't push him off. He must have been feeling just as lonely as Sam had been lately. He laid his head on top of Sam's and whispered, "Hey Sammy."
For as long as Sam could remember, Dean had been his main source of comfort. There usually wasn't anyone else. Dean was the only constant in his life, and as much as the protective older brother routine could get annoying, Sam secretly liked it. His brother was his best friend.
He felt Dean move, and turned his head a bit so he could look at him. Dean brushed a stray lock of hair out of Sam's face, smiling. "C'mon, let's get some sleep."
Sam stood up and stretched one last time before crawling into the passenger seat and leaning it all the way back. He pulled his hood and up laid back as Dean got into the seat next to him. He heard Dean lean over, and lifted his head up enough to briefly brush his lips against Dean's before settling back down. It wasn't very often that his brother kissed him goodnight anymore, and it certainly wasn't something they ever talked about. It was just another bit of comfort between to brothers who had no one but each other to tell them everything would be ok.
