Waking Up in the Shire
You shift in the sheets, feeling for your alarm clock, but can't find it. You know it's time to get up. You have to. When your hand finally reaches the nightstand and doesn't feel anything, you slowly open your eyes.
The sun shines in through a round window with frilly white curtains. Not your window.
Panicking, you spring from the bed and look around.
Nothing is yours! Where are you?
The small bed. The clutter of old dollies and chairs used for only decoration. The sound of a gentle fire burning in every room. The warm floor.
"It can't be." Your heart skips a beat as you rush to the window.
Outside, is the bluest sky you ever saw, the greenest grass you ever wanted to touch, and the brightest colored doors you ever wanted to open. Hobbits wander outside, going to market or tending their fields.
"The Shire!" You toss on a robe and run through the house you hope is yours. You throw open your circle door and the sunlight engulfs your sight until you stumble out in the cleanest air imaginable. As your eyes adjust, two Hobbit children run by you, playing tag. A third one chases after but takes the time to wave at you.
You wave back, dumbfound.
Everything is perfect.
You can hear the Shire music soaring over the trees, rolling down the hills, and skipping across the rivers. The smell of fresh bread just out of the oven wafts through the air to you, making your belly rumble. A taste you can only describe as Shire gets in your mouth and you love it. Tears well up in your eyes, as you take in the world you wanted to be apart of since you opened The Hobbit.
You begin laughing as you spin around and around, feeling the grass between your toes, the dirt on your soles, and the wind in your face. Sinking down onto a bench, you can't remove your eyes from the scene. You don't want to. Everyone is so happy. They're smiling, waving, and eating; everything you thought the Shire would be like.
The Hobbit living next door to you, pulls out a flute from his pocket and starts playing the music you know by heart. You grin, pull your knees to your chest, and wish to never leave.
You're home.
"Good morning!"
You jump up to see who is talking.
The freshly awake Bilbo Baggins, pack swung over his shoulder and staff in hand, smiles at you like you are smiling at the Shire.
Your jaw drops and you chuckle, astonished. "Good morning."
"Well I'm off!" He takes off jogging down the dirt road.
"Wait!" You yell. "Where are you off to?"
He turns back and laughs. "I'm going on an adventure!"
"Hold on! I'll go with you!" You cheer excitedly and head into your house. You place your hand on the blue door and rest your forehead against the wood, smelling the fresh paint and the Old Toby burning somewhere behind you. Pushing it open, your heart soars once more at the hole. Not a dirty, wet hole nor a dry, bare hole, but a Hobbit-hole.
"In a hole in the ground," you recite as you march in, "there lived a Hobbit."
You are ready for an adventure!

Reviews welcome!
I listen to the Shire music all the time. This morning, when I got up to make breakfast, I was listening and felt peaceful. I think about being in the Shire all the time and decided to get the feeling out on paper.
I hope you, whom reads this, has a great day.
Thank you.
