26 Letters, 26 Stories – Coffee
One calm evening in the town of Kalwon, Blathers decided to take a break from the museum and visit an old friend in the main part of town.
"Blathers? What are you doing here in town?" Skye inquired.
"Just going for a break," the owl tiredly replied. He was woken up constantly throughout he day by the mayor, Amber, and Amber's friend, Briar. The two of them had been finding fossils that needed assessing, and he was the only person who knew what the fossils looked like. Briar had also brought in a large mole cricket for the museum, as well as Amber bringing in a Petaltail Dragonfly specimen for Kalwon's bug exhibit. Considering how large the two bugs were, Blathers was extremely displeased with having to deal with the insects.
He had soon made it to the local coffee shop, The Roost. Wearily, Blathers dragged himself through the door.
"Hello there, Blathers," Brewster quietly said.
"Hello," Blathers replied. The owl sat down in the first seat, and asked, "Can I just talk to you for a bit?"
"Yes. Coffee?"
Blathers nodded. "Everyday I'm analyzing the fossils that Amber and Briar bring in. Then the duo bring in new fish species, bugs, and artwork from Redd to fill up the exhibits. Since Celeste runs the shop upstairs, I'm constantly woken up by them, and then the regular townsfolk awake me to be guided to a specific exhibit. I can't get a break!" Blathers threw his wings up in exasperation, and collapsed on the counter-top.
Brewster was silent for a moment, then said, "Perhaps if you were to look for museum additions yourself, you would not be as tired?" The pigeon set the coffee in front of Blathers, which was a Mocha with lots of milk but no sugar.*
"But how?" Blathers picked up the coffee and took a sip as he looked Brewster in the eye.
"Simple. You close the museum for a day, and go on a search for some of the missing parts of the museum."
Blathers paused his coffee intake mid-sip. "Close the museum?"
"For a day or so as you hunt for the missing pieces of the museum. Then after the day of searching is over, you display the additions in the museum."
Blathers sighed, "I don't think I can close the museum."
"If its a museum representative you are worried about, Miss Skye would enjoy filling your role for the day. She seems to have a large interest in the collections," Brewster suggested. "If worst came to worst, I would also be willing to fill in for you."
Blathers smiled. "Thank you Brewster. Sometimes I wish that you were still part of our museum. It was nice having a friend to chat with over a cup of you delectable coffee."
Brewster nodded, thinking back to when the owl would talk with Brewster about a range of things, from the collection to the holidays to how business was running. "That will be 200 Bells for the coffee."
* Blathers has no official coffee recipe, so I used Random Chooser for his coffee preference. Funny thing is, I was looking through the Coffee Preference guide on Nookipedia and the recipe I used for Blathers is unique to him.
