Disclaimer: do not own the labyrinth or any of its original characters. I do not own Oberon or Titania. They belong to Shakespeare. I do though own all the other characters. The labyrinth belongs to the Jim Henson Company. (Sad!)
A/N ok guys sorry I had to delete the other version of this story, but it really needed some revamping so I pulled it and reworked it Plus I have a beta who is helping me with it this time around so hopefully it won't be so hard to understand this time around. So I have to thank trampymctramp for offering to be my beta thank you sooooooo much. there will be a few changes to the story and a little more detail so hopefully you won't be disappointed. oh and I promise it will just as epic as before if no more so. Oh just so I clear up on thing there is a 5 year time difference between the two worlds in this story. So for every year that passes Aboveground five have past Underground. And just so you know Jareth was Twenty Five in Fae years when this story began.
Prologue
Lynds stood waiting before the High Court. She waited, wondering silently as to what her defiance would cost her. She knew the law stated that she would have to wed her attacker or be sent Aboveground for the rest of her life which, to her mind, would not be such a bad thing. It was better than having to wed a man who had forced himself on her. Was it fair that she alone should have to suffer for what had happened? If it had not been for the fact that her fiancé Abi had wanted to speak to her, she never would have been in the castle that day. She had been there by his request, only to be raped by his brother, Achard Cleophas. She thought back on how Abi had sat there and watched the terrifying crime as she had fought and pleaded with both of them.
It had taken a month before she could bring herself to tell her parents and they had insisted that the wedding go on as usual. She however, told them very clearly would she wed neither of the brothers and that they could take the matter to the High King and Queen if they were unhappy with her decision. Thus, her parents took the matter to the High Court which had ultimately led to her standing here, awaiting her fate.
Smiling inwardly, she allowed her magic free reign as she read every thought in the crowded room. She carefully scanned the King and Queen's minds to find out what her punishment would be, only to find that she could not read either of their thoughts.
She looked around the room until her eyes fell onto the youngest child of the High King and Queen. He was standing close to the throne of his father looking appalled by the whole scenario. She knew that the young prince was much more humane than his two older brothers and she knew that one day he would become a great king. Her thoughts were interrupted as the High Queen began to speak.
"Lynds" the Queen began.
"Majesty," Lynds returned, as she curtsied to the monarch.
"As you know you have refused to wed either one of my sons, which I can understand under the circumstances. Now I know you know the law, and you know that we could force the issue, but I will not. So, because of your refusal we have no choice but to banish you Aboveground for the remainder of your life."
The Queen stopped and allowed Lynds some say in her punishment.
Lynds was actually relieved that she would not have to wed either of the brothers yet she was unhappy that they would go unpunished for what they had done to her. She used her gift of second sight-a gift that the queen knew nothing about- and turned to the gathered assembly.
"As you all know I stand here in judgment for my refusal to wed a man who raped me as his brother, my fiancé, stood by and did nothing. Some of you do not agree that I alone should have to suffer for this offense. I agree. So I tell you: the Goblin King Abi and his brother Achard Cleophas, will die unhappy and alone within the century. I tell you this to give you hope. The young prince Jareth will inherit the Goblin Kingdom. He will unknowingly right the wrong that has been done to me and anyone else unfortunate enough to cross paths with these two heartless rulers.
The Labyrinth that now surrounds the castle and city will now become a test to any that try to solve it. His bride will be the first to solve the Labyrinth. She will not be full Fae and will have dwelt Aboveground all her life. For this reason, when Jareth becomes Goblin King he will have the power to fulfill any wish from any mortal. His job will involve the children the mortals unwittingly wish away. He will have the power to remove them silently from their homes and challenge the Wisher. His challenge can be anything he wants it to be.
If the Wisher would like to try to solve the Labyrinth in order to reclaim the wished-away child, they will have to do so in exactly thirteen hours. It is because of this that Jareth will meet and fall in love with his bride. She, too, will fall in love with him and willingly enter into our most sacred of bonds with the Goblin King. All of you will know her as the Champion of the Labyrinth.
In addition, Jareth, unlike his two older brothers, will know happiness, love, and joy. His bride will become more powerful than any of us has ever seen and her powers will trump those of the High Queen. She will bare more children than any other Fae woman and her children and, eventually, her grandchildren, will only bond with other people who are able to solve the Labyrinth in the allotted 13 hours. Together, Jareth and his bride will bring the Fae population back from the brink of extinction."
She stopped and turned cold eyes to the two brothers who had caused her so much grief and then turned and smiled at the younger before fading from sight forever.
A/N ok how do you like the new version of this story? Let me know I live on reviews.
