Disclaimer: I don't own Hetalia Axis Powers and I don't make money of writing this. Previously, the title of this fiction was taken from Ben Howard's song titled "Depth Over Distance". Because of certain development, I have plan to make this fiction better by changing some aspects of it, though I'm sure the plot will stay true of what I planned.

All those dreams started with someone calling him 'Germany'.

In those dreams, people he had known in his real life popped up one by one and called by name as if they were personification of a country. His older brother Gilbert appeared as 'Prussia' and his Japanese colleague Kiku appeared as 'Japan'.

There were tons of other more like 'France', 'Britain', and 'Spain', but only one face missed name and country; a happy, constantly smile-filled face of a man with auburn hair, amber eyes, and strange curl of hair on the left side of his head; a man who evoked longing for him…

As soon as Ludwig Beilschmidt woke up from his sleep, he immediately felt annoyed with yet another strange dream he had. The dream had followed him for sometime now. He didn't need such dream to start his day. For sometime, the German had been wondering why he had these silly, absurd dreams. Ludwig was a logical person in real life with no desire to do anything out of ordinary.

The blond man stared sleepily, grudgingly at the unfamiliar ceiling. Ludwig then realised that it was his first day of a yearlong research and teaching in London for his second doctorate program in engineering. To think that he had those strange dreams since he was in Germany was certainly not a good way to start a day.

His plans for the day and year were filled already. Beside teaching, writing, and researching, his free, after-work hours were immediately taken by people like Arthur who insisted to introduce Ludwig to some of the best bar in London. As the pale blue-eyed man stood up and tidied his bed, he remembered his acquintance Arthur and all his British eccentricity. Arthur enjoyed tea and beer. He also had strange idea of cuisine and interest in black magic, which didn't seem very logical for Ludwig.

But then again, Arthur was Arthur. Even until now, Ludwig wasn't very sure on what kind of job Arthur Kirkland actually had. He often said, usually after a couple glass of beer, that he was, as Ludwig remembered it clearly, 'The British Government itself'. Ludwig wasn't sure what Arthur meant by that, but he was still his friends and Arthur was very helpful when it came to living in this city and to his career overall.

Now the German man stood in front of his bathroom mirror. He was dressed and he was ready for his first day. Since his fridge didn't contain an adequate supply for breakfast, he had to find some place for food that morning. Staring at his reflection in the mirror once again before he left, Ludwig gazed at a tall, pale man behind the glass. He imagined himself looking a little nervous, though the majority of people always tell him that he generally make either indifferent or scary expression, though Ludwig didn't feel that way. Maybe what scares people was his muscle, because his students don't usually expect their engineering professor to be so fit. Or perhaps the way he did his hair…

As Ludwig squinted his eyes to his reflection, a sound from his mobile phone reminded him that Kiku—Ludwig wrote his name with Japanese character instead of alphabet on his phone in an effort that he could learn more language anytime soon—was already waiting for him for their first breakfast in London. Quickly pocketing his mobile phone, the thought of the nameless face from his dream became forgotten memory of last night.

Author's Note: Hello! Thank you so much for reading my first Hetalia fan fiction. I just really want to write my own version of GerIta since I love them so much. This is only the beginning, so it wasn't very long. I don't know whether I can write a decent fiction for them, but I'll try my best.

I edited the title and updated this chapter a little by 12 April 2015 since I plan to upgrade this story for better. Until next time.
