Fires raged out of control as the soldiers marched through the city, line by line they passed striking fear into the hearts of the villagers. They searched every house, leaving no chair or item unturned, and taking whatever items of value they could take up in their large grubby hands. Women screamed as sons and husbands were dragged off in chains or thrown into the wagon headed for the castle's dungeons. In the midst of it all a boy peered out from a hole in the wall and wept for his city. "All for one woman."

At the castle of Cephiro a small girl awoke and snuggled closer to the man beside her, drawing designs on his bare chest with her finger. This girl was Hikaru Shido, the pillar of cephiro and a magic knight; the man was her husband Lantis, ironically the brother of the man she had killed after she had first been summoned to cephiro. 'He's so cute when he 's asleep." Ever since their marriage the two had been inseparable, but now her duties hung like a weight on her shoulders, as the pillar of Cephiro and the magic knight of fire. Pulling away quietly she stole to the window like a mouse trying to get to the fridge without waking the cat, and pulled back the curtains, letting in a little sunlight. Their room was the best in the castle, or so master mage Clef had told them, and it held a wonderful view of the land beyond. . She donned her armor that clef had recently returned to her repaired and she turned, halfway out the door "Sleep well, my Lantis." Then she was gone, leaving the room as if she had never been there.

Chains rattled, mixing with the sounds of groans and screams throughout the castle's dungeons echoing so that it was heard all over. He was in excruciating pain, and could barely feel his limbs as the rack stretched further and further. "Now one more time, where is she?" Silence, he watched the man watching him with a straight face, showing no pain or remorse as the rack stretched again and his body ripped in two, killing him instantly. The man just watched the corpse be dragged off to join the thousands of others in the fire, not caring that what he was doing was twisted and wrong. To him they were just pawns in his little game of chess, pieces he could use to his purpose until he found what he wanted. "Soon my dear, we will be together again.. soon"

Meanwhile Hikaru had already reached the forest and had turned, staring back at the castle where her friends were just now realizing she was once again. Smiling she continued on, further into the dark, unrelenting forest. Unafraid of the monsters and whatever lay before her. As she made her way through she the sound of hoof beats drew closer and closer, and she drew her sword, slashing at the horseman who passed. "He 's looking for me, isn't he?" Blood seeped from the horse's corpse, and the man trembled as he answered her "You're no pillar, you're a demon!" She just stared straight ahead into the woods "which way to the village" Still trembling he pointed the same direction she was facing then fainted."I'm coming for you Emerald.."
