He had said he had wanted ice flowers when he went.
At the time, Yamagi had refused, not wanting to entertain the idea of Shino dying. Even with the danger they were in, the idea of losing him seemed to be nothing more than a possibility, one that could never happen.
But it happened. And he hadn't been able to provide him with the ice flowers he wanted after he went.
So every year, on the anniversary of that battle, Yamagi would always find time to set off ice flowers with the other survivors.
He hoped it brought him peace.
