Sara's Request
Sara hovered outside Brass's office. He was in there, finishing off a report. All she had to do was knock on the door and go in. But she couldn't make herself do it so she walked back down the corridor.
She stopped half way down the corridor and turned back around, she had to do this today or she never would. She'd spent the better part of the last week hanging around outside his office. She had to do it today.
She held her hand up to knock on the door and then stopped herself again. What if he said no?
She sat down outside his office. She'd thought about this. It was the right decision, she knew it. She just had to ask Brass.
"Are you going to come in and do whatever it is that you're here for or are you going to spend the next week stood out here?" The door had opened. Brass had seen here. There was no going back now.
He stood back to allow her into his office and shut the door behind her. She stood awkwardly in front of his desk as though she was here to be disciplined.
"Sit down and say whatever it is that your here to say." Jim said sitting back down behind his desk
Sara sat down with a bump and opened her mouth, then she closed it again, the words she wanted to say left her.
"Am I supposed to guess? Because telepathy was never my strong point."
"There's something I want to ask you."
"Well ask me kiddo."
"Gil's asked me to marry him. I said yes. Only, I wanted to ask you, will you give me away?" She said the last part so quickly that it sounded like one word.
"You want me to give you away?" He wasn't sure he'd heard her right.
She swallowed and nodded. "I'll understand if you don't want to but, but I'd really like it if you did."
"I'd be honoured." Jim said in surprise. "But what about your father."
"He's dead." She said bluntly. "He died when I was twelve."
"I'm sorry Sara."
"Don't be, he wasn't the sort of guy you'd want as a dad. He used to beat my mom up so she killed him." Sara said bluntly.
"I had no idea." Jim replied, suddenly a lot about Sara made sense.
"It was a long time ago." She said shrugging. "But you've always looked out for me since I came to Vegas, and I really appreciate it, even if I don't often say so."
"I'd love to Sara."
"Really?"
"Really. So, as Catherine would say, Gil's finally got his head out of the microscope?"
Sara laughed. "Yeah. You don't seem very surprised."
"Yeah, well, I've had my suspicions. I am a detective! Do I need to threaten him about what I'll do if he ever hurts you?"
"He won't." Sara said smiling at Brass.
They stood up and hugged. "I'm really please for you. I'm glad you're both happy."
"Thanks Jim.
